1. hakeem was greatly hindered last year by his respiratory problems. 2. hakeem's doctors still are not positive on what the problem is. 3. hakeem still doesn't know if the medication will work. 4. hakeem already has 2 rings 5. kelvin cato needs as much pt as possible to develop. 6. hakeem probably won't win a ring this year. 7. this is hakeem's last year. 8. hakeem's play (primarily hustle) has drastically dropped. 9. hank gathers 10. reggie lewis because of the above i believe hakeem needs to retire - here and now. who agrees (or disagrees) and why? i'm curious to see the consensus of the bbs.
I'm pretty 9 and 10 aren't even relevant, since this as more to do with his lungs than anything else. However, he has had heart problems in the past. That would be the worst thing I could ever imagine, seeing our warrior fall on the court. I would like to see Dream try one more year. Who knows. Maybe, just maybe he's just trying to fool everyone after 3 straight offseasons of saying he's in the best shape of his career, and him not living up to that hype. I can "dream", can't I? ------------------ Cheerleaders are just dancers who've gone r****ded. visit www.swirve.com
Hakeem has great character. If his playing is hurting the team more than helping, I think he'll be able to see that and step back into a lesser role. He has pride and will start, but he can accept playing less than 20 minutes if warranted. IMHO. ------------------ "I'd like to be going down Fourth Avenue in a parade with all the graffiti coming down on our heads." -- Patrick Ewing, showing off that Georgetown edumacation.
I crunched some numbers and at 16 mil, 20 minutes per game comes out to almost $10K/min. ------------------ David Stern calls me now and says, 'I apologize for all the things I said to you in the past. Dennis is a lot worse than you are.' -- Charles Barkley
If Dream didnt have breathing problems he still couldnt run with Stevie. But if the season comes down to one play, one shot. Dream is the player of choice to have in at center over our other choices. ------------------ I'ma need more than 6 and a half rebounds a game from the PF
I'd say he stays till the bitter end, hopefully playing 35 minutes all the while. ------------------ Rockets Draft Obligations Summary http://www.gaffordstudios.cjb.net/
He should sit his butt down, collect a paycheck, and praise for a great career. But he could have been that useless on another team. That's a lot of money to pay a guy on the IR or bench even if he is a hero. Hakeem will be like John Salley in the movie Eddie, but without the resurgence when he's needed. But to answer your question, he should retire. I don't want Houston's greatest sports hero (aside from Carl Lewis) to have to risk his health or life playing a game that isn't worth it. If I were Les, CD or Rudy I'd gladly pay him salary and urge him out the door unless a doctor clears his condition from the slate. One question: Terrel Bell was cut from the training camp roster because he didn't pass a physical. You think Dream making 10K per minute is scary? Chris Dudley made about 20K/min last year. Let's see if anyone can beat that one (without including those that didn't play due to major injuries). ------------------ Nederland 2002 Qualifying Campaign (Damn those penalties!!!) I think Hakeem will be alright, I truly believe that last year he went in expecting to still be THE MAN, and got hurt, and found out they were going in another direction. It hurt his pride, now this year, his role will be clearly defined, he knows it is not HIS team anymore, and he can just relax and put up the 15pts and 8 boards we all expect. I agree with Dakota. He can still contribute. If Hakeem is suffering from the Asthma thing then he will realize its time to step down but until then we should all be behind him. ------------------
so if we get say.....30 games into the season and hakeem's play is obviously being hampered by his breathing problems, would you call for his retirement then? for health reason only i'd have to say yes. that or sit on the IR for the rest of the year. i'd just hate to see the great warrior fall on the battlefield. his battles already been won. now's time to sit in the throne and watch everyone else fight the new battles.
Right on verse. I'd rahter swallow pride than risk my health or life. But I'd still rather see Dream drop a bomb on his last game of his career. He can relax and prepare to go out with a bang. I'd hate to see Dream go out on a stretcher. At least Barkley could use crutches. ------------------ "Liberalism not only legitimizes envy, jealousy, ignorance, and the lack of moral standards, but it also makes these attributes virtues." --Drake Raft
