A Pattern is Starting to Emerge with Priming our Offense

    First Quarter
In Q1, we're running plays through Yao to get him going early. Cato gets his share of rebounds and a couple of FGAs. Mobley and Francis hang around for some end of quarter theatrics. Late Q1, Yao sits, and we start seeing the second unit; Taylor comes in, Boki is in.

    Second Quarter
Second unit, even with Mobley and Francis tends to struggle. For what reasons? I do not know. But it's very strange though how, Q2 is the best time to get Francis and Mobley going. While Mobley has been playing well from behind the arc, sometimes it's a struggle to maintain our lead in the second quarter. Even after Yao checks in mid/late Q2, we've lost some of our momentum.

    Third Quarter
Sometimes we come out firing on all four cylinders out of the gate. Other days, we look like SH*T. Yet another strange phenomena that I can't figure out. Unlike the first quarter, we also don't necessarily go straight to Yao. We see more offensive involvement, from the get go, with Jackson, Mobely and Francis.

    Fourth Quarter
Francis, is TOO unselfish, IMO to wait this long to get started. Perhaps, it's hero syndrome. But when other players are firing and the Francis cylinder has yet to be ignited, who do you go to? Francis or the hot hand at the time? It could be Yao, it could be Taylor, it could be Mobley? What will be interesting to see though, is whether JVG goes with Taylor over Cato to close out games now that Taylor is back. We lose bit in rebounding w/o Cato but we get some more offensive firepower in Taylor.

So how do we get firing on all four cylinders come Q4?

    :p

Yea, it seems like the Rox just don't have enough good players coming off the bench. They need Pikowski and A. Griffin's service baddddddd. As soon as Yao goes out, JVG should be running plays through Francis and Mobley, and not going anymore inside to Taylor or the so called inside out game. Only do it with Ming in there.

We wait until Piatkowski and Adrian Griffin are available so that...

    * Mobley and Francis are not ending the game nearing the 40+ minute mark.

    * JJax isn't playing in the high 30 minutes. (He avg'd just under 21 mpg @ SAC).

If we are going to play at the defensive level that is being played, we will have to have a longer rotation to be fresh in Q4.

I see how Pike will help the offense. I am sure he will make a difference even if he doesnt take or make many shots when he returns. Just the fact that he is present on the court will make the opposing teams double team him and leave someone open or leave him open and let him kill them with 3 pointers (hopefully he wont miss)

I dont know about Adrian Griffin. How will he improve the offense? I am not really sure, he is not really an offensive player. He is good at defense. In any case defense is important also and it would be nice to have him back asap but I havent heard anything about him in a long time. The last I heard his name mentioned was on sports radio 610 when Matt Jackson said that hopefully he will be back against Dallas...that was 2 weeks ago???

This is a great point, Gater.

Truth be told, the whole fatigue issue slipped my mind. I wonder if our guards tiring in the fourth quarter have to do with our mental mistakes during close games?
