Over the last few days I have been playing OOTP5. I think itis an awesome game and really like some of the extras they added into it. One of the things they allow you to do is to is to create a persona. you have the ability to marry have children and even get divorced. The concept or moreso what they game does with children led me to the line of thinking of a way to have a little experiment to give our league an interesting twist. My idea was to creat 30 players(1 for each team) that would begin as totally average and exactly the same. Then we can see who gets better. How many become major leaguers, how many of them become good major leaguers, and if any become stars. The oprions I would leave open to the manager, beyond what to do with the player once he is on your roster, is that each manager can select a name, nationality, nickname, number, birthday(year would be selected automatically due to the fact that I want to make all players 18yrs. old) for their player. We had discussed in chat the option of choosing a position, but in fairness I think we should all get the same position to keep the consistency of the project. My proposal would be that everyone gets a starting pitcher with perfectly average and equal ratings. Thsi gift,if you want to call it that, would come at a price, albeit not a steep price. and herein lies our second decision (the 1st being should we try this). I have had 2 proposals for the expense of the player and I could go with either. First, it was proposed that we could forgo one round of the draft and delete 30 similar pitchers from the draft pool. Meaning that the created player would take the place of a mid round selection and to supplement the player creation we remove 30 similarly average pitchers from the draft. You would not actually have to draft your player you'd just get them instead of getting one of your mid round selections. Option number two is to delete a player of similar talent from your current roster. This would have the same effect but be a little more subjective as to who would you delete and what consitutes equal talent etc. If we chose this option I would probably choose the player and if there were any disputes ask the opinions of the members of the opposite league to condone or overrule my selection. (now after typing this I think I like the first option a little better as it would mean less headaches for me).
So ultimately I want to submit this to you to see where your opinions lie. Should we try this? Do you have any suggestions on how we should do this? What should we have to give up in place of a created player?

Also don't post yeah I wanna do it then list your created player requests. If this passes I'll start a thread with guidelines for that.

Well - I suggested the delete 30 players from the draft bit, but then again I also suggested we not do this at all. And that is what I still think of the matter. I guess I will be outvoted though - but I guess I should voice my opinion anyway.

Definitely option 1. I love the idea, but option 2 is too subjective. Option 1 is a fair way to do it where we'll all be losing something of the same value.

Yes you should. And I have been thinking about the purity of it and really teh only thing we are changing is that you actually get to name a player and makes it easier to track how random the game is. You don't exactly gain anything and you don't really lose anything. It just gives everyone a chance to see what the game does with developments. IMO it is no less pure than editing attributes based on a guessing contest :). But if we decide to do it and you still don't want to I'll make sure your plyer has a dramatic decrease on his 19th birthday ;).

Well to be fair, you give everyone the 'same' player while in the draft they would have been getting worse and worse. So as I said in the chat: "Less than pure"

By "remove", would this be from the league of just availability in the draft?

It would be from the game. In essence I would be replacing them with your created person. As Heath says it is not totally "pure" but I thought it would be fun to try and it isn't like I am creating some BBBB players with maxed out ratings to dole out. I would think most of our players will never be great major leaguers(if they even make it). I would expect them to have similar careers to a normal mid round selection, with a little personal touch to it.

I am totally for this idea.

    Great idea Castor!!!

Don't worry about Heath. He is against any sort of innovation. If it were up to him, we would still be playing OOTP2.

I'm not really behind the position of erasing players from the game, but I'll support it. The only other matter is if it would be possible to have a yay or nay on the selected players that are axed?

I'm about the same as Drew. Don't really care for the idea, but it wouldn't hurt anything to try it.
