London Sizzler Tandoori Bar & Grill Hillcroft and the Southwest Freeway A London style Indian restaurant, and some of the best Indian food I have had in the city. Went there for lunch today with an Indian friend who is a computer consultant on assignment in Houston. He couldn't believe how good it was. If you like Indian food, check this place out. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian entrees. I will definitely be heading back there.
I see this place whenever I'm driving down 59. What exactly is a "London-style" Indian Restaurant? Is it any different than a Houston-style Indian Restaurant?
Apparently they serve dishes that are common in Indian restaurants in London but not elsewhere. I'm a relative newby when it comes to Indian food so I can't say for sure if this is true. Things like an Onion Bhaji....a combo of onions, chick pea flour and spices that are rolled into balls and fried. I don't remember seeing this on the menu at other Indian restaurants in town. We tried an order as an appetizer and it was really good. They serve it with a yogurt/spice sauce to dip it in.
yeah... the whole 'London-style' title is not enticing. London probably has the WORST food restaurants of any city i've ever been to. anyone else have bad food experiences in London?
yea, the food in london is pretty bad...but now that i think of it...indian food in london is what mexican food is here in the US...in other words, it's the second most popular food choice (english food being first, obviously)
my wife would second this. she spent a month in london doing student teaching while she was in college. she was so excited about getting back home for "real food."
I saw this on a comic strip that took place inside a pub. "That was the best meal I've ever had in England! What was it?" "Well, first you had four pints. Then you ate two of our coasters and three of our darts."
An Indian establishment on Hillcroft? I don't believe you! Next you'll tell me there are East Asian shops in Bellaire... ...I'll be sure to try it out with my family when I head back to Houston.
The whole English/British food thing never appealed to me. I don't know what it is, but maybe it's just so blah. I also am not too gung-ho about all these "fusion" restaurants that are popping up everywhere. Some of them have decent food, but in a sense they're bastardizing traditional foods from chinese, thai, indian, etc. cultures.
Yep, went to one of those stupid fusion places after graduation. BAKH, bad food, and stupid prices are so costly...
You do not know what you are talking about if you think London does not have good Indian food. London-style does not mean fusion, it just means either closer to traditional Indian, or coming from the first wave of exported style. Even the same dish can be fairly different. I, personally, have favorties from both style. Anyway, Indian is my number one food and I have had it basically since birth, so I will check it out. If it is no good, well, I should be living in London this time next year, anyway.
i have to say i've heard this but lived there for several years and it must just be one of those 'know where to go' cities because I had some fantastic meals there. cant say english food is anything to rave about but maybe the fish and chips. but had amazing indian, bengali, ethiopian, polish, hungarian, asian, fine continental (stay away from european beef cause it sucks ass), and seafood.
Yeah, as a whole England is known for such bland creations as fish & chips, liver & onions, etc. BUT ... in London, you'll find Indian restaurants are as prevalent as Chinese restaurants are here in Houston. Those crazy brits love their Indian food. So, believe it or not, this is a case where London-style would actually be a positive message in the dining marketing world.
Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about jalapeno peppers popping up in my Chinese dishes. On the one hand, I can't see how jalapenos could possibly be native to the far east. But on the other, I likes me a jalapeno! So I go with it, but I don't necessarily agree with it.
