apparently, the was a need to vet the vetters.

[rquoter]Breaking News: Jim Johnson resigns from Obama campaign

Jim Johnson, the former head of Fannie Mae who was leading Barack Obama's vice presidential search when his favorable loans with Countrywide were revealed, is stepping down from the Obama campaign to avoid becoming a distraction.

In a statement issued from the Obama campaign headquarters in Chicago just moments ago, the candidate sought to minimize the impact of the embarrassing episode. He said:

“Jim did not want to distract in any way from the very important task of gathering information about my vice presidential nominee, so he has made a decision to step aside that I accept.

"We have a very good selection process underway, and I am confident that it will produce a number of highly qualified candidates for me to choose from in the weeks ahead. I remain grateful to Jim for his service and his efforts in this process.”[/rquoter]

Don't take it personally. He doesn't respond to anyone's posts. He just lobs bombs and runs away.

Good for Barack for jumping on this so quickly! I challenge McCain to cut loose all of the lobbyists working for his campaign. But that would be hard to do since pretty much his entire senior advisor staff are lobbyists.

    Straight talking indeed.

Sounds like Obama learned his lesson from the Wright problem. Quick toss under the bus this time instead of waiting a couple of month.

Obama is just applying the same housing principles that he used in Chicago when his districts' citizens were living in Rezko's slums with no heat.

Obama rails against predatory lenders, then cozies up to a guy who has a sweetheart deal with Countrywide. Typical Obama hypocrisy...

The solution to the housing problem is having Tony Rezko just purchase an adjacent lot next to the house you are buying and give you a steep discount! What? That won't work for everyone? Just the politically corrupt? Oh, too bad.

I was watching Countdown last night, and they brought up the Johnson thing, and pointed out that it weakened Obama's argument against McCain. This was before Obama got rid of him.

But they did also point out a few differences.

I think key among them are the fact thats that Mr. Johnson did not work for countrywide; Mr. Johnson is not a lobbyist for any mortgage company or any company; and Mr. Johnson is not on Obama‘s team to help create a policy with regard to the mortgage crisis.

There is a huge difference between Johnson and Gramm.

Nevertheless I'm happy to see that Obama removed him.

Or Charlie Black. Tell us about Charlie Black.

    Who is Charlie Black?

The founder and current head of BKSH is Charlie Black, whose ties with the Bush family go back to 1972, when he and Karl Rove were jockeying for control of the College Republicans in a campaign so dirty that George H.W. Bush, then head of the Republican National Committee, had to step in and sort matters out. Black then worked for Ronald Reagan's and George H.W. Bush's presidential campaigns from 1976 to 1992. He served as an adviser to George W. Bush's campaigns in 2000 and 2004 and is often quoted in news stories as an unofficial White House spokesman.

BKSH was representing Iraq exile Ahmed Chalabi as early as 1999 and continued doing so until the invasion of Iraq. An international con-man found guilty in absentia in Jordan for bank scams, Chalabi is most widely known for being one of the key pre-Iraq war intelligence propagandists who supplied skewed information to support the Pentagon's ultra-secretive Office of Special Plans and the now-discredited pre-war reporting of Judith Miller for the New York Times. During 2004, Francis Brooke of the Rendon Group, which had represented Chalabi since the early 90's, was working on contract in Baghdad for BKSH. Then in the summer and fall of 2005, Lincoln Group, which had been tasked by the Pentagon with providing pro-US stories to Iraqi media, was subcontracting the work to BKSH, as the same time as BKSH was registered to represent the government of Iraq as its US lobbyist.

Obama doesn't defend, he acts (removal of Johnson). He solves the problem.

Some of the posters from the left however will try compare him to Bush, which I think is dumb. I mean even when things start going bad for Bush, you don't see him going "well atleast I aint Hitler".

That is amazingly insignificant. But what was significant is that you didn't react to the difference that was pointed out to you, between "look a squirrel" which was your accusation, and the reality was holding someone accountable.

Looks like there's no evidence that he got preferential treatment, it's just speculation floated by the WSJ.
