http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/topstory2/3254450 Nehemiah Pickens was a cop who I have been around since he was a kid, he loved police work and was active in the community. He was shot in the back several times by the cop that he was coming to aid. This is a terrible tragedy and sheds light on trigger happy cops who would rather shoot first and ask questions later. +
Jeez, that's awful. Saddest thing is we won't get to hear both sides of the story...did the other cop really give your friend adequate time to stop and identify himself, like he's reporting?
He shot him in the back. Deadly force is used when you are in fear of serious bodily injury or death. Nehemiah was running away from him.
RIP+ Prayers for his family. Shot in the back, there's no excuse for that. AB's been telling us for a long time about the problems in HPD. Incase people didn't know, he's a former cop, so he knows what he's talking about. I'm reminded of the thread about that hispanic kid who was killed while leaving a theater parking lot by a cop in street clothes because they wouldn't stop. He thought he was a car jacker. I'm pretty sure he warned us about the problem in that thread.
Terrible news. I'm very sorry, AB. What a tragedy. RIP, Officer Pickens AB, if you happen to hear anything about ways the general public can support his family/honor his memory, please pass it along.
That was a dumb deputy. You would've thought the reason why the other person (cop) kept on running was b/c he was trying to catch the suspect? Another thing, why did he had to shoot him twice? I mean, one bullet would've taken him down and possibly might have lived.
I know, I agree. Which makes me think the deputy never really bothered to even say "stop and put down your weapon", like he's reporting.
Ironically, Nehemiah fought his whole life to rise above the thugs and hoodlums he grew up with, in the end he was gunned down like a common criminal.
im sorry about what happened. but at the same time, if cops would do their jobs instead of harrassing people for no reason, issuing out tickets just to get paid; then there would'nt be any problems with today's ****ed up system.
oohhhh crap i seen that cop not too long ago!!!!!!!!! he was a pretty cool dude. not like these other harrassing ass cops that work for hpd!!!!!!!! ***thumbs down****
looks like the sherriff's deputy thought he was the bad guy .....the off duty guy was in plain clothes
Watched the Cliick2Houston video on this story earlier today. The officer fired 16 rounds at Mr. Pickens, hitting him 6 times!!!. This cop needs to be behind a desk (or better yet fired) My condolences to the Pickens family. He just killed a man. If he was not a cop . . . .would you be so lenient? If the man he killed was not a cop. . . . what would our thoughts be? I'm not going to politicize this man's death but it does bother me severely A Man is dead . . . He was a good guy trying to help . . . . Rocket River My Condolences
