looks like rudy thinks the china teams coaches suck....whicj they do. But i too would like to see the translation. Man i bet yao can't wait to get away from that team of scrubs. I know how it feels to play with scrubs its not fun and frustrating. You ask your self why are they on the court if there this bad.

This seems to be more a rant than an analysis... I don't really like this kind of articles. The coach Wang Fei (like George Karl) is probably already contemplating suicide, and then these reporters pour salt over his wounds... argh... But I guess it does lend perspective. (Personally I was under the impression that Rudy was defending the Chinese NT coach in previous interviews...)

Against Germany, Russia, etc., they didn't have the strength to reverse the situation after falling behind. Against New Zealand, even after leading by 24 points in the first period, they nonetheless lost the victory all but handed to them. The Chinese NT in the World Championships have virtually become a team which no one can understand.

Is the team lacking experience? The main players on the team, Yao Ming, Batere, Hu Weidong, Li Nan, Gong Xiaobin, Guo Shiciang, all participated in the Olympics. Some others have even more big games. If it takes all 12 members on the team to be battle-hardened veterans to count as sufficiently experienced, then China probably will never succeed.

Is the skill level/potential too disparate? The Chinese team, when playing against the so-called "Dream Team V", led for almost the entire first half, almost becoming the first team in history to win a half-game against the Dream Team. Certainly that wasn't a gift from the Americans?

The two giants, Yao and Batere are the foundations of China's chances. but Wang Fei's use of the two men was not without contention. The Rockets head coach, i.e. Yao Ming's future coach, criticised mercilessly Wang Fei's improper utilisation of Yao Ming after watching the Chinese game. During one game, a nervous Yao received two quick fouls and was hurriedly substituted and sent to the bench for nearly 10 mionutes, leading to his inability to get into the game (reach peak performance) the rest of the match. Rockets coach Rudy directly pointed out that Yao Ming shouldn't have been used use this way, and even NBA players wouldn't be able to stand such treatment from his coach. In another match, there were two instances where Yao was just getting into a groove (getting hot), and then he was subbed off the court by Wang Fei. The Rockets' coach called it a "baffling strategic setup/arrangement".

Ole Wang Fei ought to be contemplating hurting himself in sacrifice to the basketball gods. The guy sucked. And yes Karl as well. I think finally it has been demonstrated that all these years coach Karl was a moron riding the backs of Payton and Allen. Fei is just a complete b*stard when it came to running that team. They were not that bad. Don't forget that the guy is getting paid to do that. It is pathetic when it is your profession to do something and you are that bad at it.

Honestly I have a hard time believing RudyT criticized anyone. This guy never says a negative thing about anyone ever even when it's completely obvious.

 

You ought to sit within earshot of Rudy during a game. He can get really pissed. He is a very smart coach (don't forget he took a team with only one all star to two championships) and he gets frustrated when players are not running his plays right or when the refs dick him over. He can be very vocal. They guy who is always calm is Larry Smith. That dude was beast back in the day but as an assistant he is a peaceful giant.

 

Did he say those things during the course of the game or in an interview? I could definitely believe he said it while watching but not in an interview.

 

Well, the guy who punched himself on his temple and die is an idiot. There are fans and there are fanatic fans. China should've done better but you can't totally blame a coach for the failure. He's probably the best coach in China so but they will learn as they go on. No doubt China basketball system is still pretty much behind. So stop bashing China coaching or the other players!! We all know most of the players aren't that good yet but give them time and they will catch up. It most of your people's fault for raising high expectation from the Chinese team.

 

yeah I see what you are saying. He is normally really strategic about his comments after a game. But I think he was truly perplexed, as were most of us, while watching China's games. The strange thing was the substitutions. It is not as easy to critique the play calling as it is the subs. They are so obvious and can easily be pointed out.

What I would get pissed about is Ming had a couple of games where he was shooting perfectly. Still he would get taken out and when he came back in they would not call enough plays for him. If you have a guy making every freaking shot he takes you keep getting him the ball. Freaking Duh!
