You know, if there is such a lockerroom disdain of Cato, I think there's a very good chance he'll be gone this time around. I hope we can get something for him. That Cato/LaFrentz deal likely had very little chance of going through, but man, that would've been sweet had it been done. ------------------
Pimp Daddy Cato has got to go. Now. Let some other team pay to keep him in jewelry and purple/pink/gold lamé trucks or whatever he was seen driving. ------------------
I would rather give him another year. Whoever we trade him for is just gonna be even worse than he is. We might even be able to renegotiate his contract. He ended the season with two solid games. ------------------ Never Underestimate the Heart of a Champion
You know your right, I don't know what we can get for Cato. Maybe package him with Moochie Norris and another player for something. I like Norris, but I believe he's expendable, like Cassell was. If we don't get Webber, then we might have to keep him. Also we don't know about Dream's status, eventhough I was told he might go to Miami. Should be an interesting off-season. ------------------
Cassell wasn't expendable. After losing him, we spent the next few years looking for anybody with a pulse who could play point. ------------------
Sphere, No, no, no, no. I say this nice-ly, not in confrontation: Moochie isn't expendable. I was at the Phoenix game a few weeks ago and we, the crowd, just loved him. He's wanted to play in Houston a long time, and he's got friends from home on the team. He must and will stay. (Unless he's the deal-breaker for a superstar, but even then, we've got a lotta picks to trade.) ------------------ [This message has been edited by ROXTXIA (edited April 22, 2001).]

I'll be totally happy if the Rockets get rid of Cato, but I gotta say this, who cares about what he buys with his money? I know if I made 6 million a year, I'd be spending it on a ton of useless crap too. Just b/c everyone wishes they had his money, doesn't mean we should talk about his Louis Vuitton luggage as if any respectable millionaire spends their money only on the stuff he needs. Cato sucks, we know it, the coaches know it, and the players know it. The only person that thinks he's earning his money is Cato himself. He'll be gone this offseason, I'm almost positive about that. He's one of those players that you have to get rid of, even if it means getting very little in return. It's addition by subtraction. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Band Geek Mobster (edited April 22, 2001).]
Maybe you guys are right about Moochie. I think he's a helluva spark plug. Shandon had a piss-poor season and maybe he can go. Then again it all depends on who we draft. I just don't think anyone would take Cato and his contract without a add on player. I think Cato is the biggest loser and disappointment the Rockets have ever had and trust me, the Rockets know this themselves. ------------------
Well that was the point of the post. To get you to laugh. Seriously, if Kelvin could just play about 20 minutes a game pull down 6 boards and play good "D", then it would be worth it to renegotiate his current contract or let him play it out. Its better than trading with Chicago, and picking up 4 deadweights instead of one. ------------------ Never Underestimate the Heart of a Champion
Funny thing about Cato. Him and his sister were complaining that he wasn't used in any local commercials or wasn't being featured on TV enough. HELLO, you have to play and play well in order to get recognized or even be considered for a commercial spot. I met Cato when he was injured in Houston and the Rockets were on a trip. You should have seen his hands, totally decked out in gold rings with diamonds and he had on this obnoxious gold necklance. He carries Louis Vuitton luggage and bags. The guy is enjoying his money, wish he had fame to go along with it. There was a closed door meeting a few weeks ago about missing practice and coming to practice late. Cato got up and made comments about people slacking off and not coming to practice on time. Supposibly, Francis and some teamates laughed under their breathe because it was Cato that the meeting was about. He was the slacked and would miss practice and show up late. Funny huh?
No we won't. Renegotiating contracts is forbidden under the current Collective Bargain Agreement. ------------------ ..as a man danced so the drums were beaten for him. Current Rocket's Salary & Contract Info
Really, never mind then. As you can see I am not a cap expert. Personally I would rather buy out his contract or let him play it out instead of trading him. Because, unless we were dealing with a stupid GM, we would just pick up more underachieving players. The only way we get rid of Cato without picking up more deadweight is through sign and trade. Miami might go for Cato+#22 for Mason. Riley's got a pretty crowded frontcourt and Mason might be looking for more playing time. Cato will probably do better there, because he won't be depended on to be the center for years to come(He seems to play well when it doesn't matter) Toronto might go for that same deal, but for Davis because he might leave anyway. We might also have a chance at Jerome Williams. He isn't getting any minutes in Toronto, and might want to jet. Something like Cato+Rights to a draft pick for Williams+Murray. We would have to take on Murray, and Clutch would have to change the description of the Game Action & Roster Moves section. ------------------ Never Underestimate the Heart of a Champion [This message has been edited by vj23k (edited April 24, 2001).]
