I took my son to the Rockets/TWolves game last night. We got there early, so as to be sure to get our promo item (a weird looking little plastic figure, reputed to be Steve Francis, but resembling Eddie Murphy more than anyone). While we were sitting in the stands we were approached by two guys from the Rockets who asked us if we would like to be the honorary team captains for the game. They explained that the deal was that they'd come to get us at 7 and take us down to the court. When the team captains came out to center court before the game, they take us out there, introduce us to the captains and the crowd, and we'd shake hands with the team captains. Oh, and a couple of free "Honorary Captains" T-shirts, to boot. I aked if we could get photos and autographs and they said no. Oh well, they didn't shoot me for asking. The only downside was, we assumed that the Rockets captain would be Steve Francis - it was Mark Jackson. Still, my 15 year old son and myself got to shake hands with him and Kevin Garnett (I told my son I should have broken one of Garnett's fingers, to give the Rockets the game). It was a little stange, standing on the court about ten feet from where Yao Ming and Steve Francis were getting stretched out by the trainers. Sad note - Bill Worrell and Matt Bullard came out to do the pre-game analysis on the court. We were wondering where Calvin was. We didn't find out why he wasn't there until we got home after the game.
At least the T-wolves didn't send up Mark Madsen. If I was your kid, I would have been stoked. Heck, if I was you, I would have been stoked. There's a good chance you just shook hands with two HOFs. Hopefully someone out there got a pic.
Congratulations guys! I saw y'all there -- amazingly I thought the same thing -- "why was it MJax and not Steve Francis"?
At the Phoniex game, i was in the high Five club. I got to high five the players during the intro, that was tight.
