After watching last nights game, Rockets are looking like the old knicks again which wasn't pretty to watch. I appreciate JVG's defensive prowesses and team approach, but he need to learn from Don Nelson and install more continuity for Rocket offense

    Problem with Rocket offense:

1.Few offensive sets with stagnant ball movement and players standing around. Yao is used like a concrete block on the low post. Everything is funneled into the low post and mid-range game is non existant.
3.Guards are not asked to do much and only 2 players are involved in any given set. I am sure Stevie and Mobs are quite unhappy with their limiting roles here.
    3. Damn boring to watch and easy to defend when opponents figure the offense out.

    Solution:

    1. JVG, please watch some Shanghai Sharks tapes and see how Ming is a much better player than Ewing and use him more in highside pick and roll, and hi-lo post. These sets are perfect for Yao to use his mid range jumpers (50% mid range jumpers and he is unstoppable at the foul line) and creating spacing for the guards to drive and kick out for the three.
    2. Get the guards involve by running more baseline screens for mid range jumpers or backdoor cuts.
    3. Need a real point guard to ran the offense, Moochie is not the answer. That 3 guard set was pathetic.

Why have Yao do perimeter shooting? Our other shooters are doing a fantastic job.

Yao did bury a long range 2 last game, out of shot clock necessity.

Tech, Yao on the low block is easily defended by zone defense or like Grizzlies did by ball pressure and fronting him. That's also why Shaq need Kobe. Kobe is a creator and frees up Shaq to do his thing. By bring Yao to the hi-post or foul line, like what Grizzlies did with Wright, Rocket offense can creat different looks and allow better ball movement, creat better entry passes and allow backdoor screens. The point is offense need flow and defense need to be kept honest. Posey and Watson were gambling all night long because they knew exactly where the ball was going. By the way, would you rather have 22 turnovers and 35% shooting again which the JVG's Knicks did alot in the past or would you rather have open mid range jumpers which Yao can hit 50% of the time and he can also create spacing for Stevie and Mobley to drive. Stevie and Mobs are practically useless in JVG's offensive sets. I am a fan of Stevie and Mobs game and they should compliment Yao not being a distraction. Before everyone jump on JVG bandwagon, look at some of the old knicks games. They weren't pretty to watch.
