as much as i would love to get claxton, barry, zo, PJ, etc....

we will probobly not be in the running for any of the players mentioned above. there will be no huge blockbuster move. only a few small tweeks.

look for us to add only vets. none of them will be worth the whole MLE.

we need 3 things added to our roster:

    1. a pure PG - ollie, whitney, and DA will all sign for the $1M exception
    2. a shooter - lenard or peeler would take half of the MLE
    3. a banger - oakley or ho. grant would take the minimum.

    our roster would look like:

    yao-cato-badiane
    griff-moT-oakley
    Jpo-boki-rice
    cat-lenard-hawk
    steve-DA-mooch

we would still have about $1.8M to spend.

    How about

    1) D. Armstrong, Ollie, K. Anderson
    2) J. Barry, Lenard
    3) Horry, Trent, Grant

    Realistically, what do we have?

    Steve, Mooch

    Cat

    Rice, Nachbar

    Eddie, MoT

    Yao, Cato

    We have three spots left:

    Posey - right of first refusal - he's back - that's 10

That leaves two spots - probably a guard and a big man. Armstrong would be nice, hopefully Batiane will pan out as a Amare type 4-5 to quickly bring along and use as a "fouler"

It'll probably take more than even that for another team other than the Magic to even think about signing Armstrong. Which, as I've been saying, is probably a moot point.

But if you all want Chris Whitney, be our guests.

Well....I'm still dreaming about Elton Brand........

    But too bad.

Francis, Moochie, Mobley, Rice, Nachbar, Griffin, Taylor, Yao, and Cato.

FIRST. Our priority better be resigning Posey. I don't know how we can replace him. We still need him. Nachbar isn't ready. And Rice should not be playing anymore.

    SECOND.

We have one All Star point guard and one sucky @$$ backup.
    Another B+ star in Mobley...
Hopefully a secondary star named Posey will return..he can start at small forward and backup Mobley. Nachbar should hopefully not be a bust and a potential star small forward.
Griffin is here to stay. He is average. Mo Taylor is also average. They can split the time.
Yao is our sophomore ALL STAR center. Kelvin Cato is a fantastic backup.

All the positions are set to me.....except point guard.

Chris Whitney can shoot from behind the arc. But that's it......
Voshon Lenard can shoot from behind the arc as well. Good veteran. I like him...

    We also have Badiane.

    Francis 30 Whitney 18 Moochie 0
    Mobley 36 Francis 6 Posey 6 Hawkins 0
    Posey 30 Nachbar 18 Rice 0
    Griffin 24 Taylor 24
    Yao 36 Cato 12

If the Rockets are looking for inexpensive players but with potential, then how about Trenton Hassell of Chicago and Mehmet Okur of Detroit.

Hassell is a good shot, a fairly good defender and is 6-5. Okur is 6-11 and has decent range and is a pretty fair rebounder. Both will slip under the radar but have the possibility of developmental futures (okay, potential. There I said it).

I think Kevin Ollie would be a great fit to back up Francis. A veteran who can come in for about 15 minutes a night and not make mistakes is all we need, Ollie led the NBA in assists per turnover last season. As for a banger, a guy who would come on the cheap would be Brian Skinner. Last year with the 76ers he averaged 6 points and 4.8 rebounds in only 18 minutes.

If Ollie were cheap, I would take him. As for Oakley, just say no.

Ollie makes the minimum...OAKLEY?!? I'd rather get Tyrone Hill or Derrick Coleman or PJ Brown!

Brian Skinner sounds nice or all right too.

    Robert Pack?

I have a question, is Elden Campbell a free agent? He is a vet and has decent outside shot to go along with his length; hence he would be a decnt rebounder.

    Well let the flaming begin

Yes. He is a free agent. Last season, he played 15.5 minutes a game....with 6 points and 3 rebounds. He shot BELOW 40 %..............and he's 35 years old. I'm not giving him any MLE. Only the minimum. He used to be good......now...I guess he'd be a good veteran teacher. He and Patrick and Cato can play games and have fun together....:p

Hassell and Okur? I don't think they'll be overlooked. Especially Okur since Rebraca's future isn't certain. Hassell though... he sure would be nice to have. You really think the Bulls would let him go after the Jay Williams thing? They do need backcourt depth... I don't know.

Give me Jon Barry for the MLE, yeah it is alot for a guy that only scores 8 pts a game........ but he gives us the other guard we need and he also is a very good shooter. Armstrong is fine too but I doubt he leaves Orlando. PJ Brown would be great but not very realistic in my opinion.
This team needs veterans that can give the team some balance, players that have been in big games, have made the playoffs before. I think we really were lacking that last year.
Okur would be very nice, but I don't see the Pistons letting him go. If we get Barry then we will not need another point guard. Also, Ollie likes Seattle supposely, and can start there..... dont know why he would want to come here.

    C- Ming/Cato
    PF - Griffin/Taylor/Horry(????)
    SF - Posey/Nachbar/Rice
    SG - Mobley/Barry
    PG - Francis/Norris

    Rice "0"

That's not going to happen unless he's traded. More likely Posey 28, Rice 16, Nachbar 4

Rice is probably goig to have that contract year... ;)

.....untill all-star break when he has played well enough to raise his value even more than it already is with all of that $$ comming off the cap.

he will then be traded with either moT or mooch depending on what we need most in return.

I could see that right before the trade deadline, especially if we are either sucking wind or doing real well...

Plus, he's a true center... I don't know that he is completely done as a player, but we don't need 4 Cs on our roster when we have glaring holes elsewhere. Cato is very serviceable.
