My friend is selling me a 90% new 40GB PS3 (non-backward capable) because hes desperate for some cash. hes offering me the console + an extra controller + GT5 prologue for $230. hes also offering me HIS warranty for 1 year. (so if the PS3 breaks within one year he will refund the money) my question is: is this a fair deal ? is 40GB enough for me? I am a casual gamer playing games only once or twice a week. What are some cool features that i should be aware of for my PS3? What are some good games that you guys recommend? (im a casual gamer so i dont like hard-core games that will take me hours and hours to play)
What's a 90% new PS3? I don't see how you can go wrong if he's willing to offer a refund within one year if it breaks down. 40gb should be perfectly fine, unless you are downloading and storing a lot of movies and games on the HD. As for cool features, the best feature is taking advantage of the PS3 media capabilities so you can watch all the movies or listen to music thats stored on any computer on your home network.
Yes. Yes. Blu-ray and multimedia player, it only does EVERYTHING. FIFA 2010, Madden 2010, Little Big Planet, Modern Warfare 2, and Gran Turismo 5 due out in March, I think.
You should do it. If you only play once or twice a week 40g is perfect for you. The playstation does it all. Its a little entertainment center.
The friend is already offering a year warranty. If it breaks down just have him shell out repair costs. Thatll give you an additional year warranty on the refurb, I think.

I watch unblocked NFL games ported through my PS3 to my TV via Justinsports or whoever and while the resolution is not high-def, its definitely cheaper than satellite. Oh, thats for free with your internet connection. Yeah, you can do it on your laptop, but why not put it on the 47"?
Why not try to get your hands on the black friday deals? Pay 70 bucks more...get a 100% new slim with a ton more memory...get 2 games and a dvd, which you can sell and make 80 dollars. You'll end up with a brand new, latest model, ps3 for $220. And if you cant get that deal, I'd still rather pay 70 more dollars and get a new ps3.
It's been a good solid few months to buy games. Hopefully after buying this ps3 you still have some petty cash left over to try and get some on some of the game deals that will come up friday. I know amazon has madden 10 for 38$ right now, and plenty of good titles will be 35$ on friday.
Absolutely do that deal. You can buy a bigger hard drive for dirt cheap off newegg.com if that's not enough space for you. Think you can probably get a 320GB drive for like $70 maybe. Games-wise, IMO, the must-have exclusives are Demon's Souls, Uncharted, Uncharted 2, LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2, and Valkyria Chronicles. The Ratchet & Clank games are also very entertaining. I also hear good things about inFamous and Metal Gear Solid 4, but I haven't played either yet myself. On the non-exclusive front: Burnout Paradise, Fallout 3, and Resident Evil 5 are all fantastic.
I just bought the 160 gb w/Uncharted Waters (1). 299 @ Walmart. But I wont open until Black Friday, just incase I find a nice bundle one. Never know. Its not the slim model though. Umm, I gots Transformer 1 and 2 and Twilight (wifey) on bluray already, just waiting, teehee. Planning on buying Modern Warfare 2 and 2k10 and Dragon Age soon. Is uncharted 1 good?
