I've decided to take off early from work to go to happy hour, for a few hours (or days), at a low sports-IQ bar where I'm pretty sure people will like the trade, mainly because they don't know who Rudy Gay is, but probably have heard of Battier. I'll maybe ignore the ugly trade for awhile, then loosen up and start bellying up to it.

My theory is that after several beers even ugly trades start looking HOT! By the end of the night, I'll probably be willing to go to bed with Darius Miles contract.

btw: don't try this at home, you'll only get more depressed.

...so what's your feel good plans for Friday!!

I am going to a friends house and we are having a Texas Holdem tournament, I am going to try to not tap the glass and see if I can catch the fish, and avoid being caught myself.

All of this with free beer and fajitas, and for only $40. I can't wait !!

Nice to see you on here HP !

sounds like a good time. im guessing ur oppose to the trade right? question though, were u joking about the low IQ sports bar/fans who support the trade thing? i hope u were...if u were great, if ur not, im interpreting that as you implying most of those battier supporters are low IQ sports fans. if thats the case, my general response to something like that would be to tell u to pull ur head out of ur a$$.....just cause they support the trade doesnt mean they have low sports IQ's and it doesnt mean they have high sports IQ's.

at this point, whats done is done. we ALL need to stop b#@chin about "good trade bad trade". its enogh already. as is, we know nothing of how gay will turn out...star or bust. lets wait till we are fair enough into the season to decide weather we got our balls crushed by gay/west or not.

i must sound like a battier supporter but im not, im also not against it. im taking my own advice and being indifferent till we can make a fair judgement. also, sorry if i sound like a jerk, hope u had a fun time at the bar, honest.

nah, it's just that more knowledgeable basketball fans have bypassed the highlights of dunks and actually watched Rudy Gay's games and understand that he lacks an understanding of the game and does not, at this stage, have the passion and desire needed to be a star at the pro level.

Go out for a steak, a bottle of wine, then make sure the kids are sacked out. Then the fun begins. Good therapy for some post draft blues. I admit to being depressed. I won't be, around midnight.

Hope you post more HP. What made you come back?

This is probably the biggest argumentative fallacy that the pro-Gay crowd has supplied as bait to the anti-Gay crowd and consequently the latter is taking every chance it gets to knock this out of the park.

Rudy Gay was never going to be a star. Anyone who has seen his games at UConn knows this. The idea that he was going to develop into some superstar under McGrady was nonsensical and highly optimistic at best. He lacks the passion, drive, and skillset for that.

The point here is that even as a role player, even if we accept the worst case scenario that he is simply a role player, his presence on this team is far superior to that of Battier. His youth, length, and athleticism are three qualities that this team desperately needs.

Then, factor in the remote possibility of him developing into something more than that (risk/reward), the fact that we gave away a decent asset in Stromile for nothing, and the fact that we rushed to make this trade without weighing our options, and you can conclude that there is absolutely no logical argument to be made in favor of this deal. The Rockets front office should be crucified for this.

...back home to walk the dog. man, get off the "I'm insulted by the low sports-IQ bar" phrase. I meant TWO bars in particular, where people hang out who just casually follow sports....one a Rice U. grad student bar; one a music bar.

****. some of you guys are waaaaaaaaaay too wound up!!

    WE MUST INTERRUPT THIS MESSAGE:

none of heypartner's comments, expressed or implied, are necessarily those of the parent company or his own. We think maybe he's just trying to lighten things up.

I've seen Gay play a lot. I assume you're calling yourself one of the more knowledgable basketball fans. Well, if you've actually seen him play a great deal you'll know that he has a very good understanding of the game and is a lot more than an athletic freak. He's very, very fundamentally sound and has a great jump shot. If you only watched the highlights you might be quick to denounce his fundamentals, but ask anyone that's seen him play and they'll tell you that he has a good understanding of the game and has his fundamentals down.

Man I saw this thread by HP and thought he was going to use his reasoning that no one could but up a decent argument against to convince us that Gay for Battier was the right move. I opened this thread ready to be convinced that I was wrong. I opened this thread thinking that HP would bring me over to the Gay for Battier band wagon and I would feel much better. Hell, the title of the thread is...A Feel Good Thread.

So why do I feel even worse now? :(

sorry all, i know this is not following correct bbs protocals (vision Tony Almeda aka kagy looking at this post with forehead down while looking at the screen through the corner of his eyes) to recharge a dying thread, but I'm kinda new around these parts nowadays and gotta wonder what the f is up with the last two posts. i guess newbies have to sell out? hmm. sure glad Clutch didn't have to always do that, I probably would have exploded my keyboard...back in the day.

And in my best Jack Bauer whisper,

DaDakota, trust me, there is something else going on here wrt to the Rockets administration.

How would he compare to . . Eddie Jones?

As for the LOW IQ stuff
I find it laughable that people
who scream and yell about Basketball IQ everyday
are insulted when someone questions there

I guess they can dish it. . but can't take it
