OK I have been reading several threads about Mac (instead of working ) and what I feel at the end of it is a combination of frustration and sympathy. Obviously the recent lack of emotion is very frustrating for a fan but after reading about some of the personal issues he is allegedly dealing with right now and then reading an article about his earlier years and such I felt sympathy for him. No sympathy for drama involving stuff he brought on himself, but the stuff that happened in his life before. And regardless of the cause I would hope nothing but the best for any person who was going thru personal issues or depression or whatever. So to TMac: My thoughts and prayers for peace in your life whatever that may mean. To all the people who want to say if he is dealing with mental issues so be it he still gets paid...yes he does. But trying to compare celebrities with us normal folk in any aspect is just ridiculous. Its a different life and very little of it can be compared in terms of both the positive and the negative. We put them on the pedestal, we create the celebrity by spending money on the product. If they were living the same life as us we wouldn't be enamored with it, so we cannot then expect them to react/deal/cope with issues the same way as we do. It is an excuse for the stupid crap that celebrities do??? No its not but I just feel like it is very easy for us regular people to sit in our whatever income house with our privacy and our regular life expectations to sit and judge and condemn these people. We want to be them, and then when they don't act like us we hate them for it. Doesn't make any sense.
Oh I know its the Rockets forum but if people can post a bunch of slam threads on a player I feel like its perfectly legit to offer one of encouragement.
A lot of players have serious personal problems, many worse than McGrady's. His body breaking down is the core issue.
i don't think it's exactly that. it's that he's supposed to be the leader and #1/#2 option of this team. if he's a bench player and for whatever reason gets paid 20 mils per, i believe the issue would be a lot minor.
I like T-Mac and feel bad for any difficulties he is having. But celebrity or no, people in this country are expected to show up for their paychecks. What's the hard part about T-Mac playing for the Rockets? If he blows off doing a VitaminWater ad I can understand, but I think the guy knows where to show up for a Rockets bball game and what to do after the tip.
I don't. Besides the money I've been fortunate to have all my family and friends till around. Mcgrady has had at least a family member or someone close to him die in the last 6 years? It sounds kind of morbid but I'm beginning to prepare myself for that coming up soon in my life. It's not a happy thought at all. When i heard that about mcgrady I don't know how he handles it. I have a friend who has had something similar and he's just in a constant state of depression.
i guess you saw another thread that asked why fans love sf more than tmac. do you know why? it is not because sf was a better player than tmac. it is because sf played much harder than tmac whenever sf was on the court.
what personal issue is he dealing with? another death in his family? hopefully he can fight through it. but as celebrities and sports stars, you rarely get sympathy, even if your parents die and it's a game 7. i mean vince carter went to his college to get his diploma and still got criticized despite PLAYING in game 7 and played well. when you're in the spotlight, nobody cares about anything except what you bring to the table.
Like I said I understand the frustration and I totally agree with what was said as to why people love SF3 more, because I do too. My point was only to offer a bit of encouragement to a guy who is getting hated on and to make a point about the differences between us and celebrities (unless of course some of you are). Apparently though a couple people can't read because at least 2 people just referred right back to exactly what I said about us holding them to the same rules as we are...fact is they are not in any aspect living by the same rules.
Exactly, if something bad happens use it to fuel your game and play with passion. I mean if its someone he's lost he can play for them on any given night, if its a love child play for that kid another pair of shoes, if its because your dog died then play for Sparky. Its not that hard, I would think if I was playing ball and someone in my life died they would want me to play a solid game and dedicate the win to them. He just needs to get over it and man up.
wow, really? if your mother died right now, would you be able to man up and go to work tomorrow and dedicate that day to her? not everyone can use something tragic/sad as fuel. most people get depressed. most people require a period of mourning before they can recover (you do know there are anti-depressants medications for a reason right?). athletes are human too. nobody is like kobe, where he's a loner and he's insensitive to feelings of other people. i never knew of any off-court problems for tracy until now so that may explain some of his problem. if someone in yao's family had a tragic death right now, i guarantee you he would struggle for a period of time b/c that's who he is personally (a guy that keeps his emotions near his chest). again, what you say is heroic and everything and sure you can say you can do that, but yo're not in his position.
you must be very strong. i commend you for that. you're probably in the 0.00000000000000000000000000000001% who can do that after a close family member dies.
