A little high five to News Radio or, maybe this is better...

"The pig says, 'My wife is a slut'"??? - Eliane reads Kramer :)

Anyway, I really just want to ask a question about something. Does everyone enjoy complaining more than they enjoy talking about the positives? It seems like, even when the team plays well, there is something to complain about. We are certainly not unique. I remember reading about Bulls fans calling to complain to radio talk shows the year they won 72 games!

It isn't that I disagree either. Often times, there are few things as frustrating as watching this team play. It just seems to me that the passion for the team seems much more intense on the negative end of the spectrum than on the positive.

This is not just on the BBS. Frankly, the BBS is a really amazing place to vent and discuss and talk about all kinds of things. And, the interaction and instant response nature of it really brings out the intensity in fans. But, I've noticed it on talk radio, in letters to editors and other fan reaction places as well.

Is it just in our nature that being pissed off makes us want to scream more than being happy makes us want to cheer? Just wondering.

Watching the ROckets can be..very frustrating at times, but i am always there to support them. THe rockets are awesome...except for last nights performance and a few others.

I admit...i have been complaining after the last game against the Mavs, but not complaining about a player's contribution last night...or about RT. I jsut complain about something i see through time.

    Jeff...

Come on, man...We got this Carmine Crapucci doofus that is going around starting threads every 15 seconds about anything that pops into his head at the moment...God forbid he discovers the BBS hangout and tells us why he prefers baby oil to KY when he's spanking it...Get yer priorities in check!!

    Oh yeah...Rudy sucks! :D

I have to disagree with the last line because the BBS server is most often down right after we have a big win or Yao has a big nite. IMO, greater than 99% of the people here are die-hard Rox fans. It seems that some posters just worry more about the team's future than others do. Some get frustrated and hopeless when they see the team fail and others remain confident that things will work themselves out in the end. Of course some of us are even concerned after wins (a few posted after the faker win that SF still dominates the ball on ISO's too much), but that is only because they are again worried about the future games. But basically everyone is happy when the team does well and seems to voice their elation on the board.

where's the draw in coming to the board just to say, "man, ming was awesome tonight", or "what a great win by the rockets tonight". doesn't seem like a board comprised of all-things-complementary could possibly spur much debate and discussion.

my point is, you don't debate and argue over what's right, you debate and argue over what's wrong.

Its the bone head plays that make me mad.

Like in Dallas, the Rockets had problems just getting shot attempts in that 2nd quarter. I would rather see Cuttino fire 10 3 pointers, then see no shot attempts at all!

I agree, Jeff. Complainers always want to voice their opinions more than others. The complaint I love is when the Rockets have a great game and the complainers will say, "well, it is about time. Had they done this long time ago..."

It the workplace, complainers never have any solutions except the most obvious, "If we had better sales staff, we wouldn't be having these layoffs."

"If I had a larger budget, I could get more done."

"If we would learn to use the copier to its full potential, we'd be a lot more efficient."

"We need more teamwork. People willing to sacrifice."

"Jason is a selfish Refrigerator hog."

I don't feel like trying to figure it out, but it does seem like there are more threads compaining about players and Rudy than there are supporting, praising, or just giving a pat on the back. Except if you are talking about Yao Ming of course;)

Anyways, a thought just popped into my head and I guess I will venture a guess. I think you see more negative threads than positive threads because people who are optimistic about the team spend tons of time posting in negative threads to try and calm people down or change their opinions. After doing all that, you get kind of tired and since you have used up all your positive statements in the negative threads, you don't have anything new to start a thread with. Damn, I am good, aren't I?

It depends. Some times I complain
    when we win...

Other times I don't say anything when
    we lose...

I guess I now know what that old phrase
    means:

"It's not whether you win or lose, it's how you
    play the game."

If you play the game the right way, it brings
    the wins.

I don't mind talking about negative things. What bothers me is the way people talk.

    1. Many people see everything as some simple black and white no-brainer. These people cannot appreciate the complexity of issues. The result is, no insightful analysis, and treating those who don't agree as very stupid.

    2. Many people have poor way of presentation. It seems like they cannot make a point without making insulting comments. Or they make assertions without providing argument.

    3. Originality is lacking. Things just get repeated again and again and again.

    4. The threads that attract people's attention are those that say divisive things. These threads generate pages of repetitive arguments. Whereas, many insightful posts about the nuts and bolts of the game get ignored.

    2 Theories explain this:

    1) Humans by nature complain, because we have the logic too and we are by nature vein animals seeking perfection in every part of our lives, though we do not admit it.

    2) We are also frustrated fans with a Coaching complex...we all think we can outsmart the experts, because we are frustrated former athletes and have "played sports" otherwise known as "has beens". The song Glory Days comes to mind when I think about this......

If not for the complainers, the positive spinners wouldn't have anything to complain about.

pointing out the shortcomings of others is an easy way to make yourself feel better.

So can anyone criticiz the Rockets anytime at all?

If you point out any shortcomings after a win, you get this "Geez, I can't believe you still b**** after a win!".

If you criticize Rudy/Francis/Yao after a loss, then you get "Why can't you stay position. At least we are in 3rd/4th/5th place."

Its kinda like that cup half full or half empty type of thing. I think everyone want to see this team do well in the worse type of way. Even when they win, they make basketball hard. When they lose they make it look impossible like last night. If this team was didn't have talent or was marginal, it would be understandable for some of the things they do. If this team had the very, very young talent o Denver or Cleveland, then I don't think posters would be as negative as they are, myself included. The probelms is the way this team plays basketball is what is so frustrating. Even young teams that make mistakes seem no to be the variety t which this tem makes them. I mean denver is the lowest scoring tem in basketball since the shot clock and i would be hard pressed to find as many games as the rockets hve had with the elast amaount of asst. I mean how can you even give your self a chance to win against a quality opponet when you turn the ball over 12 times in the 1st half alone. You can go back to francis rooie yr and he's turning the ball over more now than then. Its like they, including the coach don't get it. Iso with no back side move ment is dead. Stop running into the pack, jumping in the air, twist around and look for someone to pass the ball to. If this team, no matter how talented they are don't get it between the ears, they will always be one ofthose talented can't win tams in the league. We see it with Portland, we've seen it with the old Sonics and now it starting to look like the rockets. I hope thats not the case though.
