Sura really picked this team up around December when we were still a mediocre ballclub... as a complement to scorers (TMac,Yao,Howard), he was still able to score, rack up assists, and plenty of rebounds. Among the non-stars, i.e. guys who are 3rd/4th options on their respective teams, you can argue he is one of the best all-around guards (points, reb, assists, defense). His health is the big liability, however.

Mike James is special, to us, because he can create his own shot; his pullups and erratic drives gave our second unit something remotely lethal. As nice as Sura is, he lacks this skill.

We resigned Barry, so that means we keep him.

Also on payroll: Wesley, Luther, Mooch, Ward

From the laundry list of guards we've thrown out, I think several, although talented, are really not upgrades. I mean, we can't add more second unit guards to a team with alot of second unit guards; you either get someone who can step into the starting slot or you stick with your own guys. SnT or a str8 up trade would have been ideal to ease the backcourt glut but we haven't had any luck.

Van Exel in Dallas and Van Exel in Portland = Olajuwon '97 and Olajuwon '99 [strictly in terms of skill atrophy]

Payton? His positive at this point is his heady defense and sharp decisions in transition; these qualities help Payton's teams from getting run over by teams like Dallas and Phoenix. Negatives: likes to control the ball, deteriorating physically, and the classic "once a superstar" ego

Finely - more interested in Phoenix, I suppose.

Stoudamire - definitely upgrade, IMO. He can spot up for range, create his own, run transition, and is a respectable team defender, but that looks bleak now...

Point is: I really think we should gamble with Jason Williams; if it pays off, you have someone with a rare skills set and, if healthy by postseason, he may be the best upgrade we can buy.

If not, let's not forget that Sura and James were both, during various stretches, very effective. I know they collapsed under Dallas' game 7 transition game, but that was an extreme case of one team's game plan putting the opponent in complete disarray; on the flip side there were many games against Phoenix/Dallas that these guys held their own in.

Just wanted to throw this out there in the midst of the guard frenzy...

Do you mean Jay Williams? Because Jason Williams is in Miami now .. I think.

If it's Jay Williams, the Second overall draft pick, Jay Williams, than yes, we should gamble on him.

The former Bull Jason Williams has stated in several media that he wants to be called by "Jason" -- not "Jay."

i had no intention of starting a name game!

Jason William, in this context, is:

    Former Duke standout
    Motorbike accident victim
    Former Chicago Bull
    2nd pick, 2002
    Loved by Dick Vitale

Ironically there is a thread on the first page of the forums stating Jason Williams is worth a gamble. Check to see if a similar thread already talking about what you want to state exists. If it does, then post in that thread instead of starting a new thread :
