Personally i think Derek Fisher is what the rockets need. 1. The guy has played with a center....named Shaq. .....Knowing how to get the ball to a center seems to be difficult to do...SF?....my point being he will know where and when to pass the ball to Ming. 2. The guy won't take too many shots like Troy Hudson who is a scoring PG...he is a above average shooter...takes timely shots. 3. Played with superstars before....Kobe and Shaq...i think it is important for the PG to realize his role....he did that in L.A. 4. Above average D. 5. Plays well within a system. I don't think BArry - Hudson - Snow(Getting slow on D).....will help us more than Fish...he is the perfect complimentary player...what the Rocks need are player who will play their roles and fill the voids on the Team....its all about a system...therefore getting more star players would be silly..... lets start with FISH.
I agree, Fish has all the attributes of a what JVG needs and the the M&M combo needs. Quick on the ball, experience in passing to the post, and we all know that "how to deal with Super Stars" is a big part of what keeps a team together on the court. Fish gets my vote for best choice for the rockets. Now, are there any real signs of getting him beyond speculation?
I dont want anything to do with Hudson. His eratic, is also a Shoot first PG exactly the Opposite to what is needed in this Situation . However i like the Idea barry and a T-mac backcourt!
Bring in Fisher, he is used to being in this type of system, I can't think of another player to the job then him
He knocks down the shots at a 30ish percentage with Shaq and Kobe and others to draw attention. I think the NBA is loaded with players who can do that for a fraction of the coin Fisher would want. His D WAS good. When Yao or McGrady or ? have to dish it back out, I want someone who can hit the shot.
How much does he want - i'd be willing to do a 3 yr 15mil contract with him (3rd year option). does anyone have any real idea what fish wants? is it more PT, no payton here, is it just the money. i'm sure its a mixture of both. what's he making in LA? snow is my second option but no Hudson, to much of a moochie. ( iliked moochie, just not in this offence)
29% three point shooting. 35% shooting overall. And I'm sure most of those were open looks. His D is not that good- especially if he doesn't get those flop calls.
There is a long PG thread running, might want to post there. Fish is OK, but his play of play of late (terrible shooting season this year) does not warrent near what the Lakers were scheduled to pay him. He also will be 30 real soon and it might be reasonable to tack on 2 extra years wear and tear because of all those intense playoff games played on top of the regular season. He is someone you could have share the PG duties, and should be paid like that. If he play here for the 1.7 mil exemption he is a no brainer to sign. I'd be more cautious breaking into the MLE to sign him unless it is a 1 or 2 year deal with the team option and other avenues are explored. He might very well duplicate his shooting performance of last year and you don't want big long term money committed to him if he really is on a quick slide in terms of his capabilities. He isn't as risk free and as perfect of fit as many of you think.
I think he opted out to try and improve on a $3 million per season contract. on the Lakers forum it was said he was looking for 6-7 million per (don't remember the length) plus a starting job. This was probably right next to a thread saying we were going to trade Yao for Shaq, so take it with a titanic grain of salt. Maybe he could be had for the contract you suggest, but I think we can do better.
That would be a horrible deal for us, see last post. If he wants to make 4 or 5 mil, a 1 year deal or 2 year deal with team option at the most--and this after other options have been explored. I am hoping he left LA more because his disspointment with what is happening there than for money. 1 year at maybe 4 mil, 2 year at maybe 6 mil, 3 year at maybe 7 mil--I wouldn't do more than that.
True, he had a horrible year this past season. But he had been a dagger off the bench for LA up to last season, I heard he struggled with minor injuries all year.
Fish and the rest of them are smoking something strong if he thinks he can make that. Maybe he said it was for the money so he didn't leave bad blood--I would not be surprised if it were other reasons.
I agree completely, especially with the part in italics. my thoughts exactly - if the Lakers forum was even right, chances of which aren't great.
My vote is for Fisher, also. We just need a guy to dole it out, man. Screw %'s & Dish out those assists ... just like Taco Bell dishes out them beans. I wanna see some ally effin OOPS! Listen to the guy from Seattle. Barry is nice, but NOT a true PG
Why are so people on this board so into a guy that couldn't even start as a PG on most teams in the NBA anymore? He seems to have lost a step and did not seem quick enough to handle guards like Chauncey Billups and his jump shot was very inconsistent. No thanks.
Too bad Fisher has only averaged more than four assists per game twice, with his highest being an average of 4.4.
But he didn't start, right? Oh well, OK, fine, sign Barry ... then lets here you people moan for another three years about yet another experiment. Get a REAL PG for once! Sign up 'ol John Lucas fer Cri-sakes.
