I read that Alton Ford may not be eligible to play at UH next year and may declare for the draft. The question is, do we draft him if we have the chance in the middle of the first or early second round? I say we try and get him if he is available around the second rather than have another Rashard Lewis situation. What do y'all think?

Now I admiitedly don't follow high school ball so I might be wrong but isn't he like a 2 guard. Anyways he passed his SAT's and from what I gather is pretty much now a given to be at UH next season.

    RocketSiv and UT Baller,
Ford's 6'9'' and around 250 lbs-a prototypical PF. Don't know muck about him. As far as Rashard Lweis comparisons go, I wouldn't even go there. Ford may be the most recruited PF in the nation, but without more knowledge, I'd leave that one alone. High school players are still crap shoots. What are the scouting reports saying about this KID?

    Pass 1st, ahoot 2nd.

Pass 1st, Shoot 2nd: I am just saying that if he were to come out and the Rox were in the position to get the kid should they? There is the possibility that we could go after this kid, Wallace, or Dermarr Johnson (cinci freshman). Since we have various pix, it seems logical that we could roll the dice on one of these players. Or we could just sign Leon Smith.

RockeSiv is correct, Ford is qualified and will be at UH next year. I've seen him play several times and he's a monster. Look for him in the draft in 2 years.

About 2 weeks ago, Ford's high school coach, Boyce Honea, said on Fox that while Alton made the test scores he still needed to improve his G.P.A.; so, it's still not a definite he'll be at UH this fall.

Basketballwise, he can do it all. He can run the floor, block shots, intimidate, shoot from about 20 feet, make free throws, etc. However, his temper is a BIG problem. He yells at the refs all the time and acts like no player should be allowed to touch him. He expects to get special treatment from teachers and, practically, anyone else.

I've read that this kid has some temper problems, and gets easily fustrated. He needs the maturity that the college experience will give him.

That said, I can't wait to see this kid in cougar gear next year. He will definately give Clyde's program a much needed shot in the arm talentwise. He's a MAN among boys.

All he has to do is attend a JC for summer school, get a 2.0, and his high school grades are irrelevant.

Forget about Ford for a second then. If we are on the board in the middle of the first round and Gerald Wallace is out there do we get him? The kid is supposed to be the real deal, but it would take atleast two years for him to begin to realize his potential I would imagine. In a perfect world I would like the Rox to get either Martin, Mihm, Pryzbilla or Johnson with their first pick and then pick up Wallace. I dont know how feasible this is, and it all depends on any trades or free agents we sign.

It is pretty much a lock that Alton Ford will not declare for hardship. He was a consensus top 5 player in his class after his junior year. A few high school gurus rated him as high as number 1. He had a disappointing summer according to most accounts. Now is ranked closer to a fringe top 10, top 15 player. Of course, he was close to the 1st big time prospect in his class to sign early before the summer camps. So that might have taken some of his motivation to excel during the summer camps. Possible theory, but who knows. He could probably be a 1st round pick if he came out. People liken him to another Karl Malone. But it's really hard to gauge how good he is when he's an inside, post player in high school.
