Are we like the 97 Spurs who got lucky and won the Duncan sweepstakes? The 01-02 Rockets had a plethora of injuries to key players, like the Spurs. Consequently, both teams ended up finishing with poor records, and also could be criticized for tanking. Another parallel is that SA had a washed-up vet, Dominique Wilkins. Who was teammates with the Rockets washed-up vet, Kevin Willis. Coincendence? I think not... ooooh scary! One last parallel is that Duncan was the sure-fire #1 big man. The same can be said for Ming.
Ming has great potential, but he is not a sure-fire pick like Duncan. However if the Rockets get the 1st pick they should give a hard look at Ming, because finding talented centers is very difficult. In 97 Robinson came back from injuries and played a complementary role to Duncan but he was still an effective player on the offensive end,but neither Cato or Collier can do the same job that Robinson did for the Spurs.
saleem-I said nothing to the effect that the Rockets will be anywhere near as good as the 98 Spurs... I was just merely stating that both teams have similar circumstances with bad seasons. I'm hoping the Rockets get the #1 pick somehow.
