I was cruising down the highway tonight and couldn't believe it. Houston's new FM talk station, 97.5, has brought the Phil Hendrie Show back to Houston. He was dumped by 950 several years ago, something I've never forgiven them for. If you haven't listened to him, give him a try. He's the most creative talk show host on the air. Ima Drummer will back me up on this. I'm not sure of his exact hours in Houston, but I think it's from 6-9pm. The Phil Hendrie Show Thank you, Lord!
Great news. I have listened to him a few times in the past and loved his shows. Glad to hear he's back now.
Hmmm. I had no idea. Listened on the radio for the first time tonight. It looks like what they are doing is playing 2 hours of the previous night's show. The normal show is 3 hours. Oh well, better than nothing. It was really weird listening on my home stereo instead of my computer at work. Newbies, please don't pass judgement on the show until you've listened for a week or two. You have to get a basic understanding of the different characters (and their quirks) before you can really 'get' the show. Give it a chance. Actually, tonight's show was really lame. He did almost no schtick. He usually does 2 hours of schtick and 1 hour of improv, but tonight he just talked. He does that when he comes back from a long weekend.
I thought the same exact thing. His show from the Bagdad car show was horrible. I can't wait to hear Vern Dozier and the gang again.
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/ae/music/3205794 According to the Chron Hendrie will be on 7-10. FM News Channel 97.5 will offer early mornings with Mike Shiloh and Robyn Geske; 9 a.m.-noon with A.W. Pantoja and Martinez; noon-1 p.m. with Kendrick and Shiloh; 1-2 p.m. with Clark Howard's syndicated consumer show; 2-5 p.m. with Jim Pruett, Brian Shannon and Craig Roberts; 5-7 p.m. with Carola anchoring a full crew; 7-10 p.m. with Phil Hendrie; and overnight with The Dream Doctor.
Hmmm. I think the chronicle got that wrong (shocker). It's 7-9. Anyway, I like the new format. There are a lot of NON POLITICAL talk radio shows out there that the AM stations are afraid to pick up for fear of upsetting all their drab dull listeners. That's why Phil was canned by Ken Charles. Too many dimwitted boobs calling in to complain that they couldn't hear their Randy Savage until midnight. Now if they'd just reunite Stevens and Pruett (and The Boner) they'd have a listener for life!
I heard Boner on earlier in the day. I thought he was the funniest guy of those 3. I'd rather not hear Stevens and Pruett again (aren't they like 70 now?), but I'll live with it if I have to just to get my Hendrie fix again.
this guy is really hit or miss for me. I don't listen that much. My favorite ones that I've heard are the ones with the guy talking about wanting a woman to help him clean up his mother's feces and to have clothes on sex and boiling the sheets every time after making love. the other is where the guy rolls aroudn the playground in his car trying to make people paranoid that he's going to kidnap their children. the shows are excellent if people call in and get really pissed.
Yeah, that was a good bit. Especially when he was out at his pond and started crying because he had a sweet potato in his pants. I can't wait until Houston gets it's first taste of Bobby Dooley. No one can piss off the callers like Bobby and Steve. She had a bit a few weeks ago where her and Steve were teaching some of the girls from the high school how to shave their....uh, areas. My favorite bit ever was when Vernon Dozier was angry (surprise) that Bush was scared to drop an atomic bomb on "the ganistan". He had a loop of the sound of an atomic bomb playing in the background and he was beating off to it. Complete with sound effects.
