I was just watching the news on WB39 adn they said 97.5 will make it's format change tomorrow at noon. They didn't speculate on the new format, but it seems many here have said it will be rock.

If you happen to flip over to 97.5 FM KRWP today, you'll hear sounds more familiar with the West Loop than on a radio station. The tunes of Alicia Keys, Prince and Usher have been replaces with the harsh sounds of hammering, sawing and other noises more accustomed to a construction zone.

That's followed by two announcements every few minutes. "Pardon our dust while we build Houston's newest radio station," a female voice announces. She then tells listeners to return at noon on Thursday for a change. That's followed by a male announcer virtually saying the same thing in Spanish.

The Houston gossip-mill has been brewing for weeks that we're getting a new rock station on that frequency. That after most of the Power 97.5 air staff was not heard on the frequency anymore and plus the net rumors getting thrown about.

Message boards across the net are going crazy with speculation. The folks at radio-info.com's Houston board have been salivating over the change for weeks, speculating on the change and what music could be played on the new station. Meanwhile, both former KLOL rock notables like Jim Pruett and the Walton and Johnson team have been throwing hints out on their personal websites that they will appear on the new station.

Cumulus Broadcasting who owns the station, has been fairly tight lipped on what will happen with the new format. After KLOL ditched the rock music, fans responded with online petitions and websites, causing many radio observers to believe a broadcasting company would hear the call for the return of rock.

But you never know what the radio programmers have up their sleeves. If you follow Houston radio at all, you might remember 93Q changing to rock for a few weeks, before 92.9 Easy Country hit the dial. More recently 92.1 KRTS-FM changed to a 1990s format for a few weeks, only to change into the current La Mera Mera format. We'll just have to wait and see.

I heard that 92.1 station for a week, and then it changed, and that pissed me off.

I hope the format is mostly 80's style hard rock. Some Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Whitesnake, Led Zep, Hammerfall, Ozzy, etc.... That would be great.

A few people on the radio-info board have been suggesting "Active" rock. That is pretty much more of the same alternative crap 94.5 is playing. I hope this station doesn't choose that format.

I remember this- it was awesome. I knew it had to be too good to be true at the time. It was right during grunge and they were playing stuff like "Home Sweet Home".

oh please.....the only one of those that plays "rock" is 93.7....and that is "classic rock"

94.5 plays crappy new alternative rock that I dont listen to
104??????? are you freaking jokin here???? that is a crappy POP station....they wouldnt know rock music if it jumped up and bit them in the a$$

    same with 96.5....

before you start passing judgement on what station plays what...I would encourage you to actually have a freaking CLUE to what you are talking about.
