sorry Jett but i think franchise himself would cause too much mayhem for the '95 rockets

and yao would bow down to the dream but help with griff and cato could at least slow him down a bit,,,plus hakeem had a more difficult time with taller centers..not saying he wouldnt humiliate him just that he had a little more difficulty

then you got maxwell and mobley,,to be honest i dont what would happen there,,,

but i give the edge to '03 prob bc francis

The 1995 Rockets team won the NBA Finals.
The 2003 Rockets team missed the playoffs.

I'm not saying the 2006 Rockets wouldn't be able to beat the 1995 squad, but it's not even close right now.

I honestly believe that the 95 Hakeem could average something like

36/14/4/4 on our big men, while holding Yao to less than 15 points, and less than 50% FG.

I am pretty damn sure that Francis won't be able to make up that balance at PG.

Other than that, the Rockets 95 were too beautifully assembled to get beaten by these Rockets.

the Rockets got torched by KJ in 1995...it didn't matter.

i can't believe there is any seriousness at all to this thread.

nba champion vs. nba lottery team

Although I agree with you about Steve, I don't think he alone would be enough to over come the total team effort the 95 team put forth. And there is no doubt that Dream would "murderlize" Yao at this stage.
You also mention the Maxwell/ Mobley matchup (which is interesting in and of itself) but don't forget we got Glide that year too. No diss to Cat but that would be almost as bad as the Dream/ Yao matchup.

    Bottom line:
I'll take the "Bling-Bling" team over the "Ching-Ching" team any day.

(Bling -Bling as in championship rings)
(Ching-Ching= money, as in serveral overpaid players)

lets not stop here let's go nuts!!!

How bout the 92-93 Mavs vs. today's Mavs.
Derek Harper would destroy Nash with his stifling D. Lets not forget Jim Jackson's emergence the last 5 games of that year. And with Doug Smith and Randy White containing Nowitski and Jamison, the only real challenge would be the Bradley Factor.

It'll be close but I think the '93 Mavs can pull it off.

Offensively, do you think Francis is as good as KJ? KJ would either put Francis in foul trouble or just plain embarrass him altogether. If Francis can't keep Parker out of the lane, How in the hell could he even sniff KJ? I can't believe I'm posting in this thread.

You guys don't give our current Rockets enough credit. I think it'd be a lot closer than yall think. Hakeem, who was in his prime at the time, would embarrass today's big men though. Least the Rockets would win, all that matters.

you were just dreaming. it's OK, but remember next time, dreaming like this is stomping on the memories of others.

Comparing a Houston championship team to anything less than a Finals team is just too much. I mean, if you want to compare 1986 to 1994, that's a different story.

Great teams are defined by playoff performance. Let's all remember that...OK?

Not even close. You have no idea how I long for those days. Along with the UH win over UCLA in the dome, and the "Love Ya Blue" Earl Cambell era, a great period in Houston Sports history. The present is pale by comparison with the exception of Ming and Carr. (Maybe UH's win over Rice!)

I happen to agree...aside from chemistry and Olajuwon, the team that started the season in 1995 was not very special.

    Smith/Cassell
    Maxwell
    Horry/Elie
    Thorpe
    Olajuwon

That's the folks with the most significant PT at least. Now try this one...

    Francis
    Mobley
    Pike/A. Griff/Rice
    E. Griff/MoTay
    Yao/Cato

Robert Horry was never any better than any other starting small forward in the NBA, Mario Elie=Adrian Griffin minus the BIG 3 in Phoenix later on that season (IMO); and with 3 players at the 3 that started last season, '03-'04 wins there. Francis is waaaaay better than Smith and Cassell at that point in their careers. '03-'04. Thorpe was a better rebounder, but not much better than Eddie or Maurice overall. Slight edge '95 there. Mobley is nearly just as good defensively as Mad Max and WAY more consistent offensively. '03-'04 again here. Then there's Hakeem vs. Yao. IMO, Yao's the next best center since Hakeem, but he's nowhere near Olajuwon at these points ('95 & '03-'04) in their careers. Edge '95.

Overall, it would be a close matchup on paper, with the edge going to this year's squad. Chemistry and maturity are immeasurable, and the '03-'04 championship has not been won yet. I think these Rockets will finish 6th in the West with a better record than those Rockets. 48-plus wins as opposed to the 47 that the '95 squad put out. This team IS better. May not pull off that '95 magic, but it is better.

Oh, and if a Thorpe for Drexler deal can be pulled off this year, I don't see why the Rox shouldn't be able to make some noise in the playoffs.

'95 in a 4-0 sweep. The question is could the current roster beat the '95 Magic? Doubt it. An thus my answer to your first question.
