I worked in Tower 2. I typically stayed in the Marriott WTC. I'll not only never forget, I cannot stand anyone who tries to denounce its meaning.
I put it in here because I didn't think you could post pictures in the hangout. Plus 9/11 topics are usually discussed here. But the mods can do whatever they want.
If you think that is bad, do a google image search on "jumper". Note the first picture that pops up. It's a WTC jumper after he hit the ground. WARNING: This is quite possibly the most disgusting picture you've ever seen in your life. NOT for the faint of heart. But it does put things in perspective. Big time.
Not trying to take away from what happened but that pic had been around a long time before 9/11. Its still really gross. I will never ever be able to forget 9/11. One of the worst days of my life. The innocence that was lost was devastating and the lives that were lost were tragic and unjustified. The heroic stories from that day can still make me cry and remembering my son asking me if the terrorists are going to blow up our city still pisses me off. 9/11 was both horrific and heartening. Unfortunately, I feel it was more horrific than heartening. +++++
How 'bout I just take your word for it? I remember the documentary that aired on CBS and the sound of the jumpers hitting the ground one after another. Now THAT was horrible.
Sorry for derailing the thread with the jumper google pic. Let's keep the thread focused on remembering what happened and the fallen heroes from 9/11.
I don't think any of us will forget that horrible day, or the amazing outpouring of compassion that followed. My thoughts are certainly with the families and friends of those who lost loved ones. It's a loss I can't even imagine.
It will be a day our generation will never forget. +++ I'll be spending it at the OSU-Marshall football game. Did anyone visit any other college stadiums last weekend? Security was much tighter last weekend for some reason. Not sure if all events were tighter last weekend or not? For example all access roads tot eh stadium were blocked with large vehicles (bull dozers, semis, etc), there was a police chopper playing right around the horseshoe even during the game, there was 2 police snipers in an adject building overseeing everything. A guy from another message board said the usher told him about the snipers but I saw the roads being blocked and the copter. Anyways everyone be extra safe this weekend.
I was thinking about this yesterday, and how I plan on explaining to my grandkids, or even my kids what happened. It's hard to imagine a generation being born not knowing what it was like to live through the worst disaster in American history. I hope that not only do we never forget, but also that those who are to come never do either.
I will spend 8:45 AM tomorrow mowing my lawn, grateful that I live in a land where I am free to purchase my own home.
I work near Intercontinental Airport and every time I'm outside and hear a low flying plane overhead, I look up to make sure it's on course. So does everyone else. Never did that before 9/11.
