I just recently found this station, that broadcasts out of Alvin Community College. Does anybody listen to it? It kind of reminds me of FM rock radio back in the day, where they will play anything as long as it rocks out, and they seem to have a lot more freedom to play a different variety of rock music. If anyone is jonesing for some real rock music after the transformation of KLOL into a latino station, I would check it out. The only problem is that the signal is not that strong and the reception is not always that great.
This station is fantastic. I wish I had a big pile of cash to give them to upgrade their transmitter so you could hear it from the Woodlands out to Katy and through to Beaumont. They play a very eclectic mix of stuff and a whole lot of local music. If you tune in and don't like what you hear, wait about ten minutes....chances are they will play something you love. They've even played stuff off of one of my band's (Carl Hayn) latest CD. Whenever I am in the southeast part of town I tune them in.
Lots of bands I've been in have gotten promoted on that station. It is a cool station in the real tradition of college radio, but with a Texas vibe.
I've been listening to KACC for nearly 15 years. I can't believe you guys are just finding it. Of course, I got a degree from ACC many, many years ago, so I know a little bit about the college.
Also, listen for some of the promos...they mock KLOL a lot. "KACC! Keeping salsa off the radio, and in the refrigerator where it belongs!"
I guess I've never turned my radio that far left on the dial that I never ran into it before, even though I've lived in Houston for a lot of years. Good station...
WARNING: THREAD HIJACK ALERT Here in Anchorage we have 87.7 FM, which is our local alt-rock station. They get away from some of the regular radio regulations by actually being a low-strength TV broadcaster, as in you can listen to them on some public access television station here in town, in addition to the radio. Somebody who knows better about this stuff could answer more thoroughly, but is there a reason why so many of those alternative/college stations congregate on the left side of the radio dial?
Here's their website. They're talking about going online. I hope they do! http://www.kaccradio.com/pages/1/index.htm
