Heads up to to any Ritter fans. This will be the first episode w/o Ritter. I'm curious to see how this episode goes, and what direction the rest of the season is going to go. Should be interesting.
I watched about 45 seconds of it and it nearly had me in tears. I can't imagine being a part of that or even a fan of the show. RIP John Ritter.
I watched for five minutes after reading this thread. I couldn't stand it. Too sad; especially after I saw the commercial for the release of "Three's Company" on DVD next week. Was it just me, or did they try to drop a little humor into the show but left the laugh track out? There seemed to be some awkward moments where you would expect an artificial chuckle from a nonexistent crowd, but there was none.
I called my girlfriend, who was watching the show, and she would not stop crying. She said she had wasted half a box of kleenexes.
I saw the very end. His wife had found a copy of the last column he had written. It had been about his experience as a father. It was beautiful. I missed the majority of the show. What happened to his character?
There is no reason to continue the show. This sitcom was built as a comedy and will not last because it's too depressing.
This episode was not funny but they tried to add "humor". The very emotional guy giving his condolences to Kate ha ha ha that wasn't funny. Kate's parents arguing over little things like sugar, again not funny. The end was too TV-ish. I wish it had been more real. Bridget's last words to her dad were "I hate you". The letter talked about how he (the dad) never said anything like that to his father cause he was scared of him, and how his kids can speak their minds and he knows they love him and he loves them. Too perfect since the article was written before Bridget told him she hates him.
They never exactly say what he died of. I thought it was a car accident until Bridget said something about collapsing in isle 3 in the grocery store. Thats probaly how the writers wanted to have it done, make u think I guess. Overall the espisode was pretty depressing. If they would have shown some clips of Ritter Id probaly would have shed a few tears. They did manage to make me laugh a few times. The plot was fairly predictable the "I hate you" has been done before I believe, but what more could they do given the situation? I applaud the cast and crew i cant imagine how tough it was to film without their friend. I hope they can make this work but its going to be difficult. The show is obviously missing the star that all good shows have. RIP
Yeah...the tone of this episode was quite depresseing...reminded me of the episode of Newsradio right after Phil Hartman's death. It was awkward too, because of the "homour" they tried to add in. It didn't make much sense to me continuing that show without Phil Hartman and it doesn't make much sense to me continuing this show without John Ritter.
My father died unexpectedly in the last year. Watching the commercials for this during the Broncos game almost set me off, I couldn't handle watching it. Count me in on those that think they should stop the show now, let it go out with dignity.
I thought "NewsRadio" did an outstanding job of handling Hartman's death. That first episode after his death (I think he died between seasons) was done very well and tastefully. "8 Simple Rules", on the other hand, was forced to scramble for new plot lines and actors at the last minute.
One thing I noticed was that it was weird when they would deliver a humorous line and their was no studio audience to laugh...just silence, yet they kept the pause there to laugh. Pretty sad, I guess. I can't imagine them turning this back into a successful comedy after how depressing the whole ordeal has been...plus having the main star gone. Seems like they should just tastefully and quietly cancel the series rather than have it go down in flames.
It it just me, or does anyone else think that ABC is incessantly milking John Ritter's death for Neilson ratings?
