Didn't see this posted anywhere. He was on 790 earlier in the morning: Davies and Dukes with Daryl Morey (mp3)
"We do have a potential deal to move up that is contingent on the other team's player not being there and the player we want being there..."
Much like the Battier/Gay trade last year. I would keep an eye on GS at #18, Lakers #19, Heat #20, Philly #12, Charlotte #22. Lakers are in "win now" mode and if the right guy is there they might be willing to move down to acquire a veteran like Luther Head. Same could be said for the Heat. Both teams could use outside shooting from the PG spot.
I found the last part of the interview very interesting. Morey said that ideally they'll have Chuck Hayes backing up a near All-Star power forward but that will be difficult to make happen with the assets they have, but that's his job. I'm really excited to see what they do at power forward now.
"Near All-Star" PF? Rasheed Wallace is a name that comes to mind. But that's a lot of salary matching.
can someone recap i cant listen to it at work? comments so far sound promising... near all-star pf? rashard?
With only 3 days to go it's obvious other teams will want to know what the Rockets are up to and will be calling their potential trading partners to find things out and beat their offer. I don't think it's wise to show your hand before the big day.
Near allstar?. hmm. this is a riddel indeed.Zac Randolph is a max player so it wont be him. we cant afford he's salary with yao and mac both also making max dollars. who else?Artest is a allstar albit he's screwed up head. i'm guessing it's ronny. my guess it's ronny artest. the kings are looking for expiring contracts and draft picks. the rockets are trying to improve there 26 pick with a packiage of luther head to move up in the draft to entice the kings into a deal. a mid range pick like the 19 or 18 with Suras Expiring contract along with rafer or snyderwho also has a expiring contraact and the bird rights could be the ice breaker.
i thought i remember reading somewhere on here that petrie wanted to do the houston offer because of v-span but the maloofs nixed it because they dont want to help adelman out in anyway possible
I've been thinking we'll trade for Sheed. As a possibility. Detroit needs to shed salary so they can keep Billups. Sheed and his coach are at constant loggerheads. Adelman, I think, was Sheed's coach at Portland. Detroit has Amir Johnson and J. Maxiell ready to contribute. They have Nazi Mohammed for center as well. Shane Battier, I think, comes from Detroit. Sura's contract is an automatic 2.8 million savings on salary cap (once he's waived). Some dude at Detroit (the GM?) really likes Vasilis. Hell, it could happen. In fact, I wouldn't be stunned at all.
Morey's monotonous tone is playing tricks on guys. Imagine Screech from Saved by the Bell saying "near all-star PF".
Adelman never coached Sheed. mike dunleavy and maurice cheeks were he's only coach's in portland. sheed is a great player if he's got he's head on. he is a great interior defender and can spread the floor for yao with he's primeter touch. only thing is he gets ejected for to many times.
Shane Battier Bob Sura Vassilis Spanoulis 2007 Draft #26 Pick Incoming Rasheed Wallace 2007 Draft #15 Pick
I think he means somebody who is "near an all star PF", like the way Mark Blount or Trenton Hassell often stand next to Keven Garnett.
Maybe the whole Artest was a smokescreen so we get comfortable getting the biggest headcase in the league, when in reality we are getting the 2nd biggest headcase, which as fans makes us just feel better about it...Super.
The near All-Star PF's that come to mind to me are: David West (Hornets) Al Jefferson (Celtics) Webber (Pistons) Lee (Knicks) Abdul Rahim (Kings) Haslem (Heat) Smith (Hawks) Okafor (Bobcats) Gooden (Cavs) Villenavuea (Bucks)
