Feel free to lock this up, I have no link, but last night charlie palilo said carl dukes is moving to a morning show in about two weeks. he was asking his program guy if it had been made official, I don't think it has. he will have a co host. forgot the name.
Cool, he is much easier on the ears than the other local morning sports guys. He seems very genuine to me. I like him. Edit: The site says the other host is a big Bills and Knicks fan.
doesn't say but he's from utica, ny. it says a city northwest of buffalo. why would anyone live any further north than buffalo?
Dukes is extremely difficult to listen to. I'd rather have six hours of Ed Fowler and Mike Edmonds than listen to Dukes for 10 minutes. Bleh!
My only issue with Carl Dukes is that I wish every show didn't have to have some reference to Barry Bonds, Mike Tyson or the lack of black owners, GM's and coaches in various leagues. I think these all make interesting topics, ON OCCASSION. It just seems like EVERY FREAKIN' NIGHT he's talking about it. It gets old.
edit: after reading again I guess your criticism is lack of topics. I don't know, he talks about the same thing everyone else does
Don't really know anything about Dukes; but if 790 is going to have a chance to survive they need to get more and more 'local'. I'm guessing this is a move in that direction.
So, will this kick Mike and Mike off the air on 790?? If it does it will suck IMO.. I like local radio, but only in the afternoons..
Is that from the callers? He was defending Drayton McLane Jr. and the lack of black Stros the other day.
I don't know if jeff was point out black topics from dukes, or lack of topics, but as far as race, dukes tries to avoid the subject in my opinion. especially on bonds and the astros. you're right, most of the race topics brought up are by callers.
That's EXACTLY right. I actually enjoy all of the topics I mentioned. It just seems like every time I listen, he's talking about them again. And I'm not saying that his opinions are wrong either, just that I'd like for there to be a little more diversity in the choices of topics. Maybe it is driven by callers. Honestly, I don't know. I've actually called in on his show to talk about Bonds in the past when the topic was up for discussion. I just get tired of hearing the same things every night. As a radio personality, I actually like Dukes in general. I'd just like to see a wider variety of topics. Maybe that will happen with a co-host and in a different time slot.
Sorry, but some guy that is from New York is not a local guy. I think a little homerism is good for local sports radio. I think it would be cool if everybody that called in yells "1994!" right before they hang up the phone... Oh, and Utica is pretty much dead East of Buffalo. Northwest of Buffalo is Canada...
You may be right. I've never really paid attention to how the topics came up, although I have heard Dukes do several interviews with guys who work in MLB to specifically discuss race and baseball, but those were few and far between and really interesting when they were discussed.
