Who wouldn't want Kobe taking the last shot? To me it's been that way for the past 7-8 years.... I still think he's 1a and Lebron is 1b.. I also believe Durant will surpass Lebron in about 3 years..

Keep in mind that some of these GMs are the same guys who outbid themselves to throw $120 million at players like Joe Johnson and Rashard Lewis. I wouldn't really trust their opinions that much and this is another one of those cases where they got it wrong, at least according to the numerous statistics that show Kobe being a worse performer in the clutch than a number of other star players.

They would still be wrong. Watching enough games should tell you that Kobe doesn't hit the most game winners, nor does he hit them at the highest percentage.

You can't even use the excuse that the defense focuses so tightly on him that he misses more, because the defense focuses just as much on any of the other star players (Lebron, Wade, Melo) and several of them still convert more frequently.

It was 89% last yr -- so it's getting worse ;).

At 10-1 i'm taking the judgement of the GM's over that of the math geeks and the guy who picked SF_rules as his moniker...

    The most backhandedhanded compliment:

Which player does the most with the least?

    1. Luis Scola, Houston 14.3%
    2. Steve Nash, Phoenix 10.7%
    3. Shane Battier, Houston 7.1%

    Ummmm...thanks. I think?

Houston with two miss congeniality awards. Yeaaa.

So you obviously disagree with all the GMs. In that case what is your answer?

My opinion from watching games and (more importantly) the numbers compiled from games that I may not have watched or remembered correctly, seem to indicate that Melo and Lebron are two of the best performers in the league with the game on the line. I haven't looked up the statistics recently, but I remember a couple of years ago hearing that Melo was shooting something like 60% on potential game winning shots in his career, while Kobe was hitting only about 30% in that same period.

Kobe made 6 game winning shots within 24 seconds last season, most ever in NBA history, 5 of them coming from behind. That's not counting a few more right above 24 seconds. Without those shots, they wouldn't have HCA in the first round.

There's no debate. LeBron isn't even close as he's not a good shooter, and refs tend not to call touchy fouls in final seconds.

Three Rockets got votes for doing the most with the least (Scola, Battier, Martin).

    Here's another interesting response:

Which player is the best finisher?
    1. LeBron James, Miami 60.7%
    2. Dwyane Wade, Miami 17.9%
    3. Kobe Bryant, L.A. Lakers 7.1%

So it's the old intangible 'clutch' argument. Hard to replicate by stats -- but with an 8 of 10 consensus of GM's, Kobe's seems to have 'it.'

Can you read? Best finisher means finish around the rim. It has nothing to do with clutch.
