76ers to Commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-Point Game

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Feb. 26, 2002 - The Philadelphia 76ers will help to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Wilt Chamberlain’s NBA record 100-point game by dedicating the Sixers contest with New Jersey on March 1, 2002 in his honor. Chamberlain recorded the remarkable achievement on March 2, 1962 in the Philadelphia Warriors 169-147 win over the New York Knicks in Hershey, Pa. at the then Hershey Sports Arena.

The Sixers will reunite some of the personnel who witnessed the feat, including Sixers statistician Harvey Pollack who served as the Warriors PR man and who was the game’s official scorer; Philadelphia radio legend Bill Campbell, who called the game on the radio; Pulitzer Prize winning AP photographer Paul Vathis who took the photo of Chamberlain holding the 100-point card; and current Sixers Promotions coordinator Jeff Millman who was the head ball boy at the game.

“We are proud to dedicate our game in Wilt’s memory marking his remarkable achievement,” Sixers Executive Vice President Dave Coskey said.

Eight records stand from that record setting evening, including most points in a game (100), most points in a half (59), most field goals made (36) and most field goals attempted (63). There were 4,124 people in attendance at the game.

At halftime, the Comcast SportsNet halftime show will be a special production looking back at Chamberlain and the 100-point game.
