Refs took over the Boston/NY game. Do they have to stop every play?

Boston had 63 free throws and NY had 50 free throws.

There were a total of 69 personal fouls and 4 technical fouls called, for 73 total fouls.

Francis, David Lee, Q, Delonte West, Szcerbiak all fouled out.

Well I would love to see them give Yao's defenders 73 fouls for a while just to offset the dozens missed every game.

But I agree, the NBA refereeing system is horrible. I don't think I would feel nearly as bad though if we would stop losing games to bad coaching however.

Looking at the box score, it's seems like Paul Pierce, Steve Francis and Jamal Crawford just took over the game. 113 free throws is ridiculous but maybe it's noteworthy a couple pathetic teams and coaches were involved.

Naw, there ain't 2 teams in the NBA that bad. The officiating was atrocious. If all of a sudden one night, you are blowing the whistle 73 times, you can't put that all on the players. They play 82 games a year and most of them have already played 9 or 10 games this season. These are professional players. The know what to expect. And then you gonna come in and light them up 73 times? Ridiculous.

This is what we want, right? As a fan, I want to see points. I don't care how it looks, or how long it takes. The only part of the game that gives me satisfaction is the final point total. It's what makes me buy nba tickets.

Hold on a sec! There were only 69 personal fouls called. The other 4 were technicals. ;). The game lasted 2:49.

Seriously, I'm not defending the refs. The Suns/Jazz game had 64 personal fouls. The foul issue is close to getting out of hand. The imbalance between how perimeter and post fouls are called is nutso. The attempt by the NBA to micromanage gameplay is failing.

20 on the Rockets and 24 on the Pistons last night even with all of the so-called fouls called on Yao's defenders (1st half only) and of course few on Rip Hamilton while molesting Tmac in the 2nd half.

Points or not, I'm not sure if even the most diehard fan would want to watch teams parading to the free-throw line every 2 possessions or so.

Basketball is supposed to be a fast-paced game. If you're gonna stop play every 40s or so, how the heck are the teams supposed to build any sort of continuity and flow in their play?

This is ridiculous. At the very least, call perimeter and inside fouls consistently with each other. How can you call a touch foul on the perimeter, and let someone get away with sheer manhandling down in the post? JVG has a point, he came out and criticised the officiating, and look what he got? a 5-figure fine.

The league and its officials need to stop having their head up their behinds.
