They bring up so many great points. How will the Rockets get minutes for everyone? Vecenie & Simon point out that the Rockets may prioritize answering questions about roster construction rather than 100% optimizing wins. I expect some roster changes by the trade deadline and then a 100% optimized rotation for the last 25-30 games.
Not much new on the Rockets for those that listen to the Game Theory Podcast regularly. I was much closer to their opinions (mostly Sam as Bryce is newish on this pod) on the Rockets prior to last season. I'm close to Sam's evaluation of the average or median result for the Rockets, but Sam does not project a much higher ceiling from Sengun, Tari, and Jalen Green. I tend to think there is a lot of positive growth still possible. He'll say Sengun will become an All-Star, but that seems like a pretty likely outcome. He doesn't think Jalen Green has much of a ceiling. I have a hard time believing a guy's best month is better than his ceiling. On Tari, Tari provides value in a weird way that makes it difficult to approximate. I tend to give Tari a lot of credit for how well the defense plays when he's in the game. Sam doesn't seem to give him as much credit which is fine, but a big difference of opinion. Also, they had Amen as the 9th best rookie last year if my memory serves. I can't say I watched every rookie often, but I have a hard time seeing Amen out of the Top 5 with how well he played for nearly half the season.
Most of us are populists, if there seems to be success, people change their tunes. The NBA is also a game that can drastically change your fate with 3-4 Top 5 picks.
Probably waiting to see how the season and Jalen and Sengun contracts go. Big year and we have won 0 games yet. Should be a fun one.
It’s a lot easier to be a fan now than a few short seasons ago. Truly, I’ve been entertained by it all so far, KPJ & Wood even smiling Silas. All had purpose and got us to where we are now.
Off topic, but is anyone else amazed that Sam Vecenie is only 34? Might even still be 33 but I'm not sure of his exact birthdate.
