7 dead after car plows into people in front of a Texas shelter that was housing migrants

    CNN —
A driver plowed into a group outside a shelter that had been housing migrants in a Texas border town on Sunday, leaving seven people dead – including several immigrants – and several others injured, authorities say.

Authorities in Brownsville, Texas say they got a call 8:30 am CT about a Land Rover that hit multiple people who were waiting at a bus stop across the street from the Ozanam Center, a non-profit homeless shelter that has been helping house migrants.

The crash left seven dead and others injured, Martin Sandoval, a Brownsville police spokesperson, told CNN. Sandoval added that several migrants were among the dead and Border Patrol was working to confirm the identities of the victims. It’s unclear whether the crash was intentional.

since it happened to migrants, no one will care…hell, this will be celebrated in some circles

there is an abundance of people in this country who think nothing of taking another person’s life…it’s honestly insane

killing someone means nothing to them

Well most of the country doesn't have crazy leadership so that's an improvement. But yeah you are right best bet is to immigrate to another country

We have to elect Senators and Reps that will make change happen. Folks need to look at the issue at hand instead of party and vote accordingly. We see it happening with abortion rights, eventually I think we'll see it with gun restrictions also.

The politicians are a reflection of the electorate. This is America.

You're clearly angry about something but I am not too sure what about.

Am I suppose to be outraged because 7 immigrants are dead? What is an acceptable number not to get outraged about? Illegals die all the time so I need to be sure of the correct number. Also, should I be angry when an immigrant kills a non immigrant?

Or are we jumping to conclusions before the facts come in?

All deaths are tragic and I feel for all of their families

I am, and I'm speechless right now.

    Don't lump us all together.

    Not necessarily true.

I want to vomit. I understand it’s not legal and they may not be following the law but the dehumanization of fellow human beings looking for a better life really pains me. Goto Florida and say this in front of the Cuban community, funny how we have different standards

Maybe y'all know more about this event than I do, but it seems like everyone is assuming this was intentional, given political rhetoric.

But most car-on-bystander violence happens b/c the drivers are looking at their phones. It could just be a distracted Range Rover watching Harden's last 3-pointer on their phone. (I'm not trying to be funny or anything about this tragic case -- it just might not be politically motivated, or dehumanizing immigrants. I don't know how many Range Rover owners would want to throw their lives away to become a low-rent domestic terrorists on a weekend afternoon.)

Sounds like he may have been under the influence.

Witnesses at the scene detained the driver until officers arrived, Sandoval said during a Sunday news conference. He said the driver of the vehicle received medical care and has been arrested on a reckless driving charge. “More than likely” there will be other charges added, Sandoval said.

The driver, identified as a Hispanic man, is being “uncooperative” with authorities, according to Sandoval. He has given authorities multiple names, and police have had to fingerprint him in hopes of finding his identity – which takes more time, Sandoval said.

Authorities have a blood sample from the driver and a toxicology test will be ordered, Sandoval said. It’s unclear how long it will take for authorities to get those results, he said.

How drunk do you have to be to run over 7 people and not know it or not care? Seems surreal to me...

I look at the place in Google maps. It's in a barb-wire fenced in compound out in a field, surrounded by drainage ditches.

I dont know anything about anything that happened, but If he hit them directly in front of the building the dude had to turn past a fenced gate and drive up a driveway. Its doesnt look like the kind of place where you just look up and find yourself.
