Check out the news: a 646 Pound catfish Fishermen catch, eat record-sized catfish Thu Jun 30, 9:11 AM ET http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20050630...TLtiBIF;_ylu=X3oDMTBiMW04NW9mBHNlYwMlJVRPUCUl WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Fishermen in northern Thailand have caught the biggest catfish on record -- a 646-pound (293-kg) giant the size of a grizzly bear -- and eaten it, the WWF and the National Geographic Society said on Wednesday. ADVERTISEMENT The giant catfish, believed to be the largest freshwater fish ever found, was caught along the Mekong River, home to more species of massive fish than any river on Earth. "We've now confirmed that this catfish is the current record holder, an astonishing find," Dr Zeb Hogan, a WWF Conservation Science Fellow, said in the joint statement. Local environmentalists and government officials tried to negotiate the release of the fish so it could continue its spawning migration in the far north of Thailand but the adult male died and was eaten in a remote village, it said. The Mekong giant catfish is southeast Asia's largest and rarest fish and the focus of a National Geographic Society project headed by Hogan to study freshwater fish greater than 6.5 feet or 220 pounds (100 kg).
Yeah, that thing has super genes that I hope have been passed on before. I hope it fed some hungry people though. We should breed more of those giants and it can become an offshoot of my Whale Ranch industry.
You know, I just thought of something, it would be hard to clean that fish on the desk in your cubicle at work.
I sent out some emails to give my Clutch bretheren a chance to get in on the ground floor. We could use a lawyer in this exciting new venture as well. Are you intersted in Get Along Little Whaley Inc?
I've heard stories about people fishing for giant blue channel cats at Lake Livingston that involve a trash can full of cemet and chain link instead of fishing string. I think those cats are more in the 100-200 lb. though.
The catfish has over 27,000 taste buds; that makes the catfish rank #1 for the animal having the most taste buds
A young catfish lived, like all catfish, on the bottom of the pond. But one day, for a change, it swam to the surface. It happened that a cat was looking into the water. So the tiny catfish, very impressed, swam down again quickly. It called to its mother, "Quick, quick. I have seen God."
I can't imagine it being good eating either. Once catfish get over 5-6 lbs. they don't taste near as good. I don't know why that is.
I think that goes with everything. I have seen big fruits and i am like damn i want that one becuase it's big and probably tastes better...only to find out it has no taste or is really bland...wonder why that is.
