Did anyone hear what the trade rumor was? i heard it involved Battier. It was reported by Matt i believe but i caught it too late.
I didn't hear it but I hope it's something like... Battier, Jackson, 1rd pick for Michael Redd or Vince Carter.
Probably just speculation. If it was an actual "rumor", it would have already been posted on this board within minutes.
you are late, it was gay for battier 2 years ago. i didn't hear the report, just guessing that they were talking about it. if i had to speculate then i would say he could be used to move up in the draft and go after rush... battier, #25 ---> barbosa, #15 if rush is there.
Phoenix might do that seeing they want a shooter with defense... but I dont see them giving up their #15
Morey isn't going to let the cat of the bag. He might talk about the possibility of moving up in the draft without giving any specific names as we near the draft day. It's also possible that he might not say anything at all even if he has a potential deal drawn up.
not only is it possible, its probable. remember how portland screwed us out of brandon roy? the rockets and blazers wanted roy. the wolves drafting at 6 wanted foye. the rockets worked a deal out with the wolves to select roy before the blazers could, then the blazers would go to their second choice (gay) leaving the rockets to draft foye and make the trade. well the blazers somehow got word of it and drafted foye at #7 before the rockets could... then made the trade to get roy. now i love shane, but i would've loved roy more. since then i think morey learned his lesson about how close you really need to keep the cards to your chest.
Sure,I remember it who doesn't. We can "blame" our beloved CD for that one. Most teams have a good idea which players are being targeted by their opponents even if they don't know the specific player that they are going after.Brandon Roy would have better than Battier or Rudy Gay/Foye. We need to get lucky, but it's so tough to get the right guy. Drafting is a calculated guess, even the best GM's aren't sure how the player they select is going to pan out.
true enough. however, i feel like since that draft morey has learned a valuable lesson (even if he learned from CD's mistake). last year we didn't see brooks or landry coming in at all. this year has been so quiet (as i've been discussing in the draft board) that it's just odd. now there are reports about the rockets wanting to move in a grab rush... some rumblings about trading shane... probably all smoke screens. still fun to speculate though.
It is fun to play GM i wish they would go after JR Smith, I just think he has so much potential but that he stuck on a bad team. We need someone who can take it to the hole and can shoot the three. He can play defense, i realize he is a knuckle head. But with a little discipline, and Mutumbo in his ear. I believe we could get him cheap.
I as well had no idea the rockets would have drafted Aaron Brooks at #26, targeted Fernandez in unsuccessfully moving up the draft and made a deal for the 1st pick in the second round and picking Landry. Who the hell saw that coming. So with Morey in current lockdown mode on any information or misinformation, its probably best to just take a wild guess as to what could happen come draft night.
So I see people are still blaming CD for that draft move. How about this, just take the best availible player. Once Roy was gone there were still good options like Brewer and u know who. If u like a player and want him, make the move and get him before someone else does. All they had to do is get to the spot, offer a little extra and make it happen. Excuses are for losers.
The man you really should blame, if you are a Brandon Roy fan, is Morey's old boss Danny Ainge. Without Danny trading the 7th pick to Portland for Sebastian Telfair (yep!), Kevin Pritchard wouldn't have been in position to ****-block Morey. Separate note: I don't recall Brandon Roy being the consensus fan favorite, either, back in those days. Another note: Didn't Brandon Roy have some sort of knee operation in college? Hmm...
I'm not blaming CD,I only said it in jest. The bottom line is if you have a better chance to get the player you want,it's going to be harder for your opponent to beat you to it,even if information doesn't leak out.
im not blaming CD. portland did what they had to do and the rockets couldn't do anything about it. as for the trade, i was for it on draft night. 2 seasons later i think battier has helped the rockets more than gay or brewer or reddick (can you imagine that pick?) could have up to this point. i can't speak for the future since the young guys will continue to get better and battier will start to decline.
How about this, If another team is willing to trade you a player you consider better than what's left in the draft, make the trade. Carl Herrera -- Amen. Telfair was originally drafted 13th just two years prior, and didn't really exceed expectations, yet was traded for the 7th pick. Boston was then so happy with him as point guard that they drafted another one in the same draft. And yes, the reason Roy dropped as far as he did was injury concerns...which appear to be legitimate as he's missed 33 games in his first 2 years.
Portland did whatever they had to do to get the player they wanted. The Rockets screwed themselves by winning 1 more meaningless game. Otherwise, they had 2/3 chance to get Roy.
You're right about the surgery but he had shown that he had bounced back strongly from it and secondly a lot of the GM's were very high on him because of his workouts, skill level and maturity around the time of the draft let alone the fans. Yes,Danny Ainge did help block CD but we did win a useless game against the Nuggets which dropped us from the 6th to the 8th spot which made it harder for the Rockets to get him as well.
