He mentioned he talked to Mitch Kupchak yesterday about just general stuff. Thing that comes to my mind is why did he call him in the first place?
Very short interview... - As usual, most likely nothing will happen...but we're trying. - Thinks the point guards are very good. High end talent, mid level talent, lots of guys to take a flyer on...very deep draft. (surprising to hear?) - Some teams are looking to sell and he's hoping to get something done. - Alexander very willing to invest in a player and buy into the draft. Hard to buy in before the late 20's. A few players where they would trade some assets to get into the top if possible. - Trying to be opportunistic, and if a player were to slide then they'd feel like they weren't doing their due diligence if they didn't make a play for him. - All things are positive with TMac. Real test will be when he gets into workouts and puts full pressure on the knee. Time table is months, not weeks or days. - Jokingly said "it's clear we're the second best team in the league" because we took the Lakers to 7. Also said "Hawks were second best team last season too" - Talked to Mitch Kupchak who was very complimentary and said the Rockets were their toughest challenge...really woke them up and got them focused. - Doesn't feel we're too far away from the top, but also feels we can't afford to just stand our ground. - Talked a little bit about the media 3 on 3 tournament tomorrow. His team won last year.
Great recap. Nothing new, but even if there was something interesting happening, he wouldn't say anything of course.
Sounds good, and typical our PGs are fine, unless he is going to get Rubio, but thats a huge gamble too. Buy a 2nd round draft, there are alot talent there just because most teams have a fail scout system. and 2nd rounder wont cost guarantee contract.
Sergio Llull in the 2nd round. Stash him in Europe for the remaining 2 years of his contract and see if he turns into something special.
Actually there are some point guards in this draft that are better than the rockets current pg's and there not necessarily in the lottery. I see teams like Houston, San Antonio and the Lakers making a play for that position because of the strong talent that's being offered this draft at the point guard position.
A point guard is like the lung of human body, pumping oxygen for the "heart" (superstars). I know rockets doesnt have the best lungs, but are you sure we NEED a transplant? Because IN MY OPINION, the potential risk of transplant out weight the current defect we are having right now.
sounds like morey thinks PG is very deep in this draft so the mostly likely scenario would be us trading for a pick in the late first round to get solid value at that position. I think this interview pretty much squashes all the rubio talk. If Morey thinks the draft is deep at that position, its more likely he'll go for an undervalued player as opposed to a player who is a definant lotto pick.
More than likely the player with the highest talent at most spots in this draft is going to be a point guard. If Morey drafts based on talent, the odds of that player being a PG is probably very high. Who knows.
yes, thats true, but not necessarily "better" than the PGs we have right now tho. mostly likely a backup with alot potential
