Per 610 am, Bob Sura has a scheduled workout for the Rockets brass tomorrow afternoon to assess the state of his comeback. Thereafter, he will have a media availability session. Hopefully we'll find out some good news.
Wow. Shocked to be honest, could this be a bluff for trade value? That's really unlikely though, however I'm really going to keep my eye on this. Landing Sura back is a virtual off-season acquisition, in my opinion.
Good luck to him... but this is strange. I mean, has any other player on any team ever scheduled a workout for their own management and have a media availability session afterwards? Call me paranoid, but I wonder what really is going on behind the scenes here. Is Bob ready to come back, ready to retire, want to be moved elsewhere because of the youth movement?
What does this mean? Is he going through hardcore trainning in front of group of doctors? He doesnt know himself if he can hold for NBA?
what is so strange? Bob has been out for a while and everyone wants to know how he is. Who better to answer those questions than Bob himself.
Good luck to Sura and like Van Gundier said it looks a bit weird he would have a workout and media session, but if he proves to be healthy this would make Head way expenable.
But just one session of trainning doesnt say anything. To me this might be the end of Bob's rockets days.
I'm going to make the big call. Sura's days are not over. Sura has recovered. Sura will surprise. After just a few weeks into the NBA season, Sura will be averaging 20ish mpg. By midseason, he will be starting. I'll repeat that: by midseason, he will be starting. Book it. For the inevitable (and logical) follow-up posts that follow..... no, I don't have any inside scoop. No, I don't have any real logic. I have a feeling in my gut. A sense that Sura is a warrior, a sense that his injuries are behind him. If he's healthy--and why couldn't he be?--he has the tenacity, the drive, the fire to work his butt back into the lineup. And once he's in the lineup, he'll get back into playing shape. And once he's in playing shape, he'll gobble up minutes. Book it.
This does seem really strange. I'm guessing that he's ready to come back and it will be offically announced to the media after the workout, or he's going to announce his retirement. My guess is that he's going to announce he's fit an cleared to play!
Even if he comes back, I would not deal Luther Head because of it. Sura has about 1-2 years tops left in him, if he does return, is highly likely to be re-injured, it makes all sense to have precautionary support.
If the news is good, I'd be happy with a trajectory that slowly increases his minutes throughout the year while keeping the legs and back fresh for max minutes in the playoffs.
Sura is a true warrior! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the guy because I think having Sura back as the starting point guard is really a shot in the arm for the Rockets. Rafer could be moved to the bench where he belongs.
It could be a situation where it's a "we make a decision tomorrow whichever way we go". In other words, either you do play or you just retire - either will be announced at the media event after the workout. Here's hoping that the guy still has a lot left in the tank, and leg, and back... etc. I loved his toughness and this team sure needs that.
hmm.. let me write that down, and see if thats true. Only spot i see him taking is the shooting guard, but I doubt that. I love Bob Sura beacuse hes a warrior, but I don't think he's a starter for us anymore. I hope he comes back though, so that he brings us that mentality and toughness we need.
