[610] Jonathan Feigan 2/19/2009 Added: Sean Deveney He talks about (of course) Tmac, trade deadline, playoff chances... http://www.sportsradio610.com/topic/play_window.php?audioType=Episode&audioId=3488035 my edit to the title won't show.
I listened to some of it before I got to work and I'll recap on what I heard: - Thinks TMac will definitely have the surgery otherwise he wouldn't have announced it to the media. - Organization had a game plan to have TMac visit multiple doctors and get opinions and, once they gathered all the info, they all were going to huddle up and come up with the best solution. - Thinks there is always a chance TMac could always turn around in the next few days and says he'll just play through it and put any surgery on hold but reiterated that he really believes he will have the surgery now. - Asked about TMac's future with the Rockets. Basically just talked about him getting back on the court. - Said this microfracture surgery will not be anywhere as serious as other's like Mashburn, etc who never played again. - TMac's surgery would be on the non-weight bearing part of the knee, so the recovery will not be as extensive and he has a chance to come back and play again. - Said he would imagine his comeback from the surgery would be more like Webber who came back and was effective, but just not going to be the player he was before. - Part of the rehab from microfracture involves tedious regiment for hours each and every day and not doing anything but that on the knee despite how good it might feel. "Will TMac have the discipline to do just that?" - He thinks that TMac, after the recovery, will be an effective player who you'll see flashes of his prime, but you'll never see him "tear down the rim over Bradley" anymore. - On chances the Rockets make a deal. Says probably but will be smaller moves. - Says many teams are looking for economic relief and the Rockets feel they have a good chance of buying a 1st-round pick for this offseason. - Says anything else will be just small like trading Head. - Said the organization felt the were in play for a "very good player who you think could be an all-star at times". But, now it seems that deal is unlikely. Says, if it were not for the TMac fiasco yesterday, he thinks he could have gotten the name of that player from someone. They started asking him about the team's playoff chances and I had to turn it off.
- talking a lot about McGrady. Jon said he thinks McGrady will come back for sure, but he will not be what he was in Orlando (he still can be good, though). He said it is a very serious surgery and the most important thing is rehab, you gotta make it every single day and some guys just give up thinking they are ok... He even said he thinks he will play here in Houston. What is more, he said it is not sure that McGrady is out, he heard some people talking that Mac may change his decision in few days (after visiting another Doctor) - he thinks the rockets are gonna make a deal but is will probably be a minor trade. the team is not afraid of taking back big contract but it is not gonna be anyting major (Vince Carter f.e. ) - he thinks we can get out of the 1st round this year, for example against Hornets or even Blazers. They will have to shoot 3s well and Yao will have to dominate though. A lot will depend on matchups.
What will really piss me off is in one or two days, TMac will announce to the whole world that he will not have the surgery, and will play through the pains for the sakes of the team! And Les will force him back to the starting line ups. And then Aretest will suck, Wafer will not have play time, and we won't sign either of them, TMac's backup will be Head again next season, and we will see how important TMac to this team when Head is his replacement!
Don't know if this guy deserves a new thread so I'll put it here: Sean Deveney 2/19/09 The Sporting News NBA writer talks about the NBA trade deadline. http://www.sportsradio610.com/topic/play_window.php?audioType=Episode&audioId=3488099
it's becoming VERY obvious tracy is doing this for his own career. i think he knows this microfracture surgery isn't as extensive and serious so he probably can come back for most of next year (i don't think with the rockets) to prove himself for another contract (def. not a max). the rockets need to move on (and finally doing so). the relationship is over.
can anyone tell me, whats our record been with Tmac OUT this season? thanks didn't know where to find it
I think Mike Miller fits that description. However, it probably would have taken Artest and Head to make it work, and I don't know that Miller would have been an improvement over Ron.
That's good news. I'd love to have a first round pick to get Darren Collison or Danny Green. We need to keep adding good young players.
