Well, he didn't really say anything new that a good follower of this board wouldn't know but:

He says he enjoys being in Houston, it feels like a "rebirth" especially coming from where he was before. He really didn't know how our vibe was before he came but he always played with high energy and hustle.

Then they started talking about how the game is played nowdays. Barry said that he feels he plays like a PG in a SG's body, and the reason the game is how it is now is because of scoring poing gaurds. And he also mentioned that the game is simple and players are making it harder than it really is.

He commented on T-mac and the label of him being "selfish". He mentioned the 7 game series against Tmac when he was with Detroit. T-mac averaged 41ppg that series and he believes his supporting cast was not up to par with the competition. T-mac has told him that he really likes the way this team is put together now and feels like he has a lot of the pressure off of him now since Barry, Wesley, Sura, etc can all go for 20+ on any given night.

Also, he believes we have a championship team. He mentioned how we almost beat seattle and spurs. Sorry that's all i can type for now, I will recap more when i get back from class.

He also said that JVG is the best coach he has played for.

    - Said that he doesn't enjoy playing against his brother, because he wants to rip his heart out when they are on the court.

    - Said that if we meet the Sonics in the playoffs, that he really likes that matchup for us.

    - Even though he has been in the league for a long time, he has learned some new things from JVG and he's the best coach he's played for.

He's going to the rodeo cook off tonight.

Grew up in Quail Valley in Missouri City in the 80s and hasn't been there since. Has no idea how much that area has grown.

They apparently had a ton of callers wanting to talk to him but John and Lance hogged the entire show and only got to one call. Jon said next week he'd like to talk about more things than just Rockets and seemed disappointed they only got to one caller.

Am I the only one that REALLY loves Jon Barry? Behind T-Mac and Yao, I think he might be my favorite Rocket right now, and we have a lot of good characters on our team. Even though we ended up losing to Seattle, when he hit that three and started going crazy I was up out of my seat. I just wish he was 3-4 years younger.

Man, I can't believe how much this board obsesses over players' ages.

Hell, in another thread I saw someone whining because Mike James is almost 30. Oh my god! 30!

Barry still has many many years left.

How many years before we are a serious contender? 2, maybe 3, maybe 4?

In 4 years, how many of our current roster will be 34 or older?

Do you think a player can be just as effective at that age, especially on the defensive end, as someone who is 24?
And it's not 1 or 2 players but every single person who is a contributer not named McGrady or Yao: Sura, Wesley, James, Howard, Barry, Mutombo

30 is not old for an NBA player but the window of opportunity at peak performance is a lot more limited than someone who is 25; and they tend to be injured more often and for longer stretches.

In 4 years James will be 33 or 34. That's not so bad. Hakeem was right about that age when he started winning us titles.

Wow. He grew up with me then since he's only a year older. I lived around the corner from Quail Valley... near FM2234. I wonder when he was around there because we used to play ball around that area - we even got tore up by John Lucas one time. :D

Horry and Cassell played major roles and they were young, quick, and very athletic.

Barry is easily my favorite rocket behind our two stars. Like I said in another thread, there is no other rocket that combines "the willingness to pass" and "the ability to pass" as well as Barry does. He is constantly looking to get Yao the ball, and how can you not love his bullet touch passes to T-mac for open 3s. And that unselfishness is contagious and carries over to the rest of the team.

Yeah, I wish he was 3-4 years younger too, but I'm just going to enjoy the time he has left. And he's not done. At the amount of minutes he plays and the type of game that he has, I'm sure that he has a couple of years left in him.

Our old vets will get replaced with other old vets as McGrady and Yao approach their peak age. I don't see it as an issue.

i'm with you man. i LOVE jon barry's game. he plays smart, poised, and i love his energy out there. his best asset is his head i think. he knows when to shoot and when to pass. it looks like he's always thinking on the court, even when he doesn't have the ball. he has fun playing basketball, you can tell by the way he hustles, smiles, and plays around on the court/bench

i remember from that game against New Orleans when we had to come back from behind. we got back on top near the end and dickau had to intentionally foul barry to put him on the line. barry looked over at dickau and then flexed his biceps. then KISSED IT. dickau looked over and seemed pretty confused. the rockets around him were laughing and giving him high fives. i love it

The only current players on this team that will be playing for us in the year 06/07, 2 years from now, are TMac, Howard, Yao, and Sura.

Therefore, by then, there will be a lot of roster updates/changes that will significantly decrease the average age of this team.

i think barry's been a great addition to the rockets, he's transformed his game from more of a shooter, ok defender in his early years, to a good passer with great court awareness.

although it's funny that he mentioned about how he can't stand playing against his brother, b/c after brent made the 3 pointer in his face the other night, it seems like jon tried to force the issue a little the next few times down the court, and he also got a tech. i just thought that kind of hurt our chance to make a run ( i believe we're down at time). but that's his competitive nature, and should help us more than hurt us later on...
