Host - Give us an idea on the travel schedule? How was the red eye
DM - we stayed. Flying out in an hour.
Host - Talk about last night's game against GSW.
DM - They get up and down. We need to do a better job. They have a great player in Curry. He was carving us up. Monta beat us up pretty good. Monta was doing things we were hoping he does but he was making shots He is a low % shooter but not last night. It was too easy in the paint. Even when we got the misses we needed, they were getting the rebounds
Host - Battier having his hands in their eyes. Talking about Help defensive
DM - Film, practice and just a wake up call. Talked with coach for a while last night after the game. It felt like we were in a fox hole. It was a humble thing. we have to show our competitors that we can play and beat Denver
Host - Miller
DM - He was fine and healthy. He's not going to be a big help defensively. Our offense wasn't a problem so we were trying to go with more defensive.
Host - Hill
DM - He was active. Coach could have went to him. He wanted to shore up the rotation on the defensive end with Hayes and Jeffries. It wasn't enough across the board
Host - Every night you're facing someone good don't they have a one-two punch?
DM - Curry is unique player. Was impressed with his shooting, attacking, and decision making. monta is an all talent. Shane... It was tough to stay with those guys for him. Courtney lee gave us a lift. He did a great job. Kyle would have helped. It was a team we should have beat. With the amount of free throws we took compared to theirs, we should have won. We needed a few more misses.
Host - FT%
DM - KM is at the all-time Rockets list without a miss. Kevin and Aaron need to accept the challenge on the other end. Aaron was struggling on the offensive side but he has to find a way to help defensively. Everyone had a bad game. It wasn't just those two guys.
Host - Scola rebounding the ball
DM - he was terrific offensively and on the boards. we win or lose as a team and he is part of that team.In the end of the day it's a lost. We needed to split this road trip. Going to go home and defend home court
Host - Maybe I'm reading to much into this but I wanted to get your thoughts about Brad not being the best on the defensive side and Yao sitting out. There's no mercy in this league.
DM - I think we match up very well at playing small. As you pointed out, the WC has great smalls. Ellis and Curry are great smalls. David Lee and Biedrins giving them broads. I agree. If what we're doing isn't working, we will use other players. We're going to keep changing until is works. There was a lot of positives on this road trip. Kevin gave us what we wanted offensively. Scola in many ways we were worried but I guess we shouldn't worry since he such a gamer. Yao ming has improved but not all the way back. I can see the path where he's coming back. It's a big positive He's key to where we want to be. I thought we got a lot of quality minutes out of Lee and Bud. Lowry is doing good. He should be back against Denver. Offensively the team is coming together but we still need to work on the other side.
Host - Minutes... Yao will he be available with 6 minutes to go.
DM - The minutes will change as we go. The most important thing is to see how he is playing. It's going to be about matchups as well. It's hard for Coach at the end of a game for two reasons. One reason is because you have to time it. If you bring him in to early, you gotta pull him at the last minute in case he goes over the time. If you bring him in to late, it will also cause problems. The most important thing is when yao is playing is his defensive. Focus on the time he's playing against guys he can match up against.
Host - 2.4 seconds would you have yao in the game?
DM - Yes, that would have been fine. Just throwing the ball to yao means they'll just going to front him. There is some maybe situations where you can have him.
Host - taking a call from fan - comment - imo this team is a championship team for three quarters, they just don't have that closer to take over the game talent wise in the fourth quarter. Put the game on his back. They don't have that type of guy. I know there's not a lot of them in the league. If you were to target a superstar without naming one, in this system what type of talent in a superstar would fit around this team?
DM - About the closer. we feel confident we can get a bucket between Kevin, AB, and Scola. They have the ability to get something It's not just one player but all of those guys are efficient... AB Kevin are hard to guard at times. AB is probably best because of his speed. Our problem is getting a key stop when you need it. Just as important as a key bucket. We're not worried about getting a bucket.
As for a superstar, we're not picky. We like our team. We think we're going to surprise some people. There's a lot to be fixed as well but they can be fixed. We have that we can build on that will help us. If one comes available, we're not going to worry about position. If it's something that makes sense that improves the Rockets, I gotta do that. We're not focus on that and trades like that don't come to early in the season.

Host - another caller - Most athletic teams work on chemistry and cohesiveness. Yao playing and then not playing. I feel that it's tough on the team. I think it would be better if Yao came off the bench. And is Jeff (Danny) Granger the most underrated player in the league.
DM - Can't talk about him. Our starting group has a great chemistry. GSW is just unique. Not having yao is hard on the team. We're trying to get chemistry with that second group. Trying to get Brad working with them. Offensively.

Host - Denver tomorrow. they beat Utah. Your thoughts?
DM - Yeah I was surprise they took it to Utah. Another positive is that in the nba close goes your way and doesn't go your way. It's about execution. If you get a chance to win on the road it's pretty good. It's not enough and we're not happy. it's not like we lost by 34 points and that points to much bigger problems then being in two close games against the champs and a back to back against to GSW. We could count on Corey M. giving us a bunch of bad shots when we played GSW. That didn't happen yesterday. Denver is a good team. They won 50 plus games for several seasons. We're going to have to be ready for them. They had issues during the offseason and it hasn't affected them. They have a bunch of shooters. We'll have our work cut out for us.

Cool.

Its looking more and more like the 24-minute cap isn't a hard cap. They'd put Yao back in the game if there's just a few seconds left. And Adelman looked like he was ready to keep Yao on the floor until the next dead ball after his 24 minutes.

I think Morey was upset in general. He stated he was spoke with Adelman for a while last night. I know most GM's and coaches talk after the game but just the way he put it and described it has me thinking they're not seeing eye-to-eye.

I get playing Jefferies and Hayes but if you can't grab a rebound, you gotta throw in Hill or Miller to see what they can do.

I really hope that was the case. As good of a reputation Rick has as a coach, he can still be dictated to when an asset is clearly rotting away on the pine.

Particularly when Adelman doesn't have a contract past this season. If the Rockets don't make the playoffs this year, it's highly possible that Morey disassembles the team, and where does that leave the coach? Obviously, that's not the goal for any of the parties involved, but it certainly adds a little color to Morey's relationship with Adelman. No telling how that might affect stuff like rotations, minutes, and everything else.

I think so! I love how candid Morey is. He doesn't mince words. Sounds like GS has done addition by subtraction.

We could count on Corey M. giving us a bunch of bad shots when we played GSW. That didn't happen yesterday.

Even if Morey makes some trades after the season, I don't think the team will be "disassembled." There are too many quality, young parts on this team to need to turn over the entire roster.
