He'll be the best 5th or 6th receiver in the NFL. AJ rookie/FA Gaffney Armstrong a battle between Bradford, Sloan Thomas, and Kendrick Starling
I don't think he signed to be the fifth reciever, he is third on the depth chart unless we draft a stud or he outright loses it in camp. This offseason has been disappointing imo, but the draft and cuts can still turn it around.
I think next offseason will be the first season the Texans sign a big time free agent. If they go 9-7 this season then those big time players might want to play here.
Derrick Armstrong should be ahead of Gaffney and Bradford in my opinion, but he doesn't get a chance because he wasn't a high draft pick. I think Armstrong could be a good compliment to AJ - a good posession receiver.
I'm glad, I think the Texans would have been absolutely stupid to spend their draft pick on a reciever. This team has too many needs to be drafting a wide receiver when they already have the very best young receiver to come into the league in the past three seasons. Johnson, Armstrong, and Bradford are diverse enough to provide any kind of offense they want to run.
First off, the Texans will still draft a WR. Its not "stupid" to do so. Bradford is not a good enough reciever at the 2. Our receiving corp sucks. Plain and simple. Teams can double team AJ all day long and our other receivers cant take advantage of the one-on-one coverage. Thats the problem. Thats also the reason we need another receiver. If teams arent allowed to double up on AJ, then Johnson will be running circles around the defense. Thats why it is imperative to get another receiver that demands some sort of respect. Until we get that, AJ will not be as effective as he can be and the offense will suffer for that. Therefore, expect the Texans to still draft a receiver if they were planning on taking one before, which I would bet they were. Bradford signing a one year deal will not change anything other than give us better depth at that position.
What's the point of having recievers if David Carr has no time to throw and the defense has no chance to stop anyone. The Texans need help on both lines. That's where they need to focus. The reciveving corps is not bad and for a fourth year team its actually pretty good.
AJ is good enough that teams can double him, and we can still throw to him and expect him to catch it. All top WR's get doubled. Even if we draft a receiver, teams will double AJ. Maybe if the Texans stopped throwing the ball to Dominick Davis 15 times a game, then our 2nd receiver could be more productive.
There is nobody in the draft that will help in that department. All those tackles need at least one year before they become effective, if they ever do become effective.
Yes, all good receivers do get doubled. However, look at Moss or Harrison. They have receivers lining up with them that can take advantage of single coverage. We do not have anyone that can do that. Thats the difference between a Corey Bradford and a Reggie Wayne. The Texans lack a #2 receiver. If this draft had a legit LT, I would be all for it. But, it doesnt, so we have to pass on that.
Bro, if I could patch up the Oline, I would be all for it. Unfortunately, Barron will not turn the Oline into a force to be reckoned with. I know that games are won and lost in the trenches. I would love to have the best oline and dline, while being decent in every other department. Unfortunately, thats not the hand weve been dealt. We are forced to upgrade other areas.
Well we tried for Pace...I don't think we go for a receiver in round 1, but I wouldn't mind one in round 2 or 3. None of the first round OL talent really seems like they'll be worth the pick that would be needed to sign them. I'd lean towards one of the top corners to take over for Glenn in a year or two, or do what it takes to get DJ (which may be nothing).
