on 610 they just said bonzi was back today in practice but wasn't sure if he would get in the game tomorrow. they played a little clip from him, something like, "it's only preseason, if it was the regular season I would have been down there in the trenches but it's only preseason." atleast he's back...
glad to know that. otherwise i am really confused by sina.com (http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2006-10-24/11062525756.shtml) , saying there might be another trade involve bozi.
I heard it too -- His tone was kinda suspect; not that he didn't care, more like he doesn't need to practice. He better get his act together, and he better not disrupt the begginings of some great chemistry we have going
Glad to hear he's back, but he should know that he's not playing tomorrow or the next day. JVG already said he's not going to play until he's in shape.
Great news, but he's failed to grasp the importance of preseason to JVG, which is definately paramount to how he feels about it! Rotations get set, starters are solidified, chemistry is developed, NBA game shape is achieved, etc...
It's good that he is back... He needs to start practicing and try get on one of the last preseason games to get the most chemistry he can or at least show up in the games. I dont really care if he plays tomorrow because the main focus light will be the 10 minuteish yao vs shaq, wade vs tmac duels.
rotations and game shape, yes...chemistry, however, is developed over the first couple months of the season. u cant develop chemistry when u are playing your starters 18-20 min per game i wouldnt worry about bonzi...he has been in the league long enuf...and has adapted to new teams enuf...that he will be fine. anyone hear why he was gone?
Hmmm.. This sounds suspiciously like a Bonzi Scheme.. Didn't they make Bonzi Schemes illegal..? He needs to get his butt to work and quit schemin'!
He's a vet and should be fine. Im just glad he is back and practicing. We might not need him against Utah in the season opener but we will need him against dallas in the home opener.
ya know, it's good that he is practicing again, but i am not happy at all with his cavalier attitude about preseason. his quote implies, no...says directly, that this issue wasn't that important at all. if it wasn't important enough to miss time in the regular season, it should not be excusable in the preseason. i might not feel this way if he were a veteran to this team. after all, he would be familiar with the players, schemes, etc. however, he has very little actual courttime experience with this organization. considering how tough the western conference is and how many changes we have made this offseason, i consider every possible practice and game (preseason or not) to be extremely important. how many games will it take to fully integrate bonzi, and how many games will it potentially cost us while we figure this out? 10? 20? bonzi is, without question, our second most effective post player. he is the defacto yao when the big man is on the bench. does anyone on the team, short of battier, know where and when he likes the ball? does he know where the shooters and cutters will be? is he proficient as passing to these shooters and cutters? with every missed practice and game, the answer increasing becomes NO. bonzi is, without question, our second most effective big guard. when yao is in the game, does anyone on the team know the best way to make use of bonzi from the perimeter? weakside or strongside? my guess is strongside, because your weakside perimeter player is typically a good three point shooter since, off of rotation, he is the person open in the coffin corner. that said, on the strong side, how is his entry passing? no one knows right now. i have been 100% on the bonzi train from day one, because i like the on court presence his brings - both physically and emotionally (we need more of an edge). however, he needs to report to the court ASAP! 10 - 20 games of experimentation could be the difference between playing the suns or playing the clips in the first round.
