I had not heard this anywhere else yet, and if it's already in some thread somewhere then please lock it down.

Heard driving in this am on 610: Granato - 'Chucky Atkins WILL be a Houston Rocket by the end of this month.'

Now he said that fairly adamantly, but it can't be anything more than speculation, right? Lance chimed in 'Yeah, he is definitely the kind of player the Rockets are coveting.' John replied, 'He's having himself a nice little season.'

Lance also mentioned whispers that Bonzi is on the outs again, this time with the entire Rockets coaching staff, and that it now looks like the Rox' focus is on trying to move him somewhere else.

    Just passing it along..

good news about chucky if its true. tremendous shooter, if JVG can tone his ball-hogging mentality down, he'll be invaluable, he'll be our new mike james.

ugh, bonzi on the outs again? im hoping it isnt true

If Griz is not contending this year, I dont see a reason why they should keep Chucky in their long term plan.

If losing Bonzi means gaining Chucky, I'm good with that. With the Rockets realization that Shane can't play extended minutes at the four, we are really overloaded at the 2-3 anyways. Chucky could provide that second strong point guard option that could really reduce Rafer's minutes.

thanks for the recap for us out-of-towners.

interesting on both fronts.... i've almost stopped caring about anything bonzi related at this point. whatever happens, happens.

YallMean, the first part of your signature is quite morbid. i actually think the rockets are doing just fine while awaiting yao's return.

but back on topic, yeah i agree that there's a good chance the chucky atkins to houston will happen.

If we trade for Atkins, I'm pretty sure Bonzi won't be involved in the deal considering how he parted ways with the Grizz.

    Bozi for Chucky??

    How much Chucky makes?

Why do Griz want a former cancer back to the team? Even if for salary dump, could they just go for our TE or Sura? Of course I didnt check the number.

Bonzi outs thingy probably is related to the piston proposal

I recall Rudy T speaking highly of Chucky Atkins improvement while at LA. Rudy seemed proud of him...

I have not watched Atkins enough to know.

He is doing well for the Griz off the bench this year.
I dont think he is a good outside shooter though, but he is stronger and mentally tougher than rafer IMHO.

Chuckie, according to hoopshype, is 3mm this year and done. Which means the Logo would want an actual asset, or 'at least' the TE.

BTW - Chuckie is < mj, by a 'long shot'.

I could see mj from Wolves in a Sura/Bonzi deal.

I could see Sura/Bonzi in a Posey deal.

I could not see Bonzi in a Griz deal (without a 3rd team).

Makes sense for the wolves, if they think Foyle is the long term PG.

Just don't see what Chucky is going to give us that JLIII is not giving us already. Chucky is a shoot first point whose jumper comes and goes with the wind and his defense is nonexistent. Not to mention he makes $3 million on an expiring deal and we got JLIII for a fraction of that. I'd rather use our TE, and/or Sura's, Bonzi's deals for something else......like say....Mo Pete.

Perhaps this was a side deal agreed upon as part of the Battier trade provided we wanted to execute this deal at the trade dealine with our trade exception. Of course, if nothing else is out there and we can get Atkins for a chunk of the TE, I'd take it. Especially if he comes with Bird's rights, where we could use him in a S&T over the summer. That way we don't lose the TE totally, even if he is not going to be a contributor.

Does anyone know if he comes with Bird's rights?

Atkins could prove valuble off the bench especially since we don't have sura coming back.

I highly doubt MJ would want to get traded here despite him having us as a choice in the off-season, I think the guy was toying with us.

    And uh, JL3 is crap.

I think that's taking it a little too far... he's a poor-man's Earl Boykins, and Boykins is playing big-time minutes for a playoff team (albeit an average team).

Sure, we can't rely on him to be the starter for years to come... but he's a great high energy guy off the bench, who's improving a lot this year.
