    Summary:

The F22 has a problem with supplying pilots oxygen causing them to pass out and stuff. A bunch of pilots don't want to fly it, but are too scare to speak out.

There was actually a guy who crashed his plane a few years ago. It was labeled as a pilot error.

The AF is pretty good about wasting taxpayer money. If pilots are passing out we basically have a 400 million dollar falling from the sky.

But they won't fall out of the sky, they have auto-pilots.

I've been thinking, we just need to convert the F-16 frame to a drone.

In the year 2054, the entire defence budget will purchase just one aircraft. This aircraft will have to be shared by the Air Force and Navy 3½ days each per week except for leap year, when it will be made available to the Marines for the extra day."

Fine 400 million dollar flying ducks unless the auto pilot also can double for combat.

    It could, it will.

I, think manned fighter jets are obsolete.

In the near future, instead of 1 $100 million dollar jet, you could fly 10 unmanned drones to do the same jobs.

I agree. How often will we be having WWII-like dogfights? And even, so how long before computers can do that?

400 million is an unfair tag to slap on the thing. Flyaway cost was lower than the current F35 that was supposed to be the cheap stealth fighter. We are 25+ years away from drones doing what a fighter pilot can do. Not to say that drones can't reduce the number of pilots required.

I admit bias in that I think the f22 is the t***... but I can't help but blame "management" in not fixing a part that has worked in other planes since the 1950's.
