didn't see a thread on the first page with this as a subject. Coming into the office i was sure this was going to be the most talked about thing from last night's game. I'm sure its being mentioned inside countless other threads but maybe I just have to rant a little bit. FOR THE LIFE OF ME, I JUST CANT UNDERSTAND HOW GAMES LIKE LAST NIGHT HAPPEN SO FREQUENTLY!!!!! 8 shots here, 6 shots there, 10 shots there, he should be shooting 15-20 shots a game!!! i can't be the only one out here begging, pleading to the tv for yao to shoot more. I just don't know whose to blame, it's too easy to say "WE CAN'T THROW A POST ENTRY PASS CORRECTLY" but that's as sorry of an excuse. we have the best big man in the league, perennial all star, and are talking about giving him the max extension (which i agree we should) but he SO OFTEN TAKES SINGLE DIGIT SHOT ATTEMPTS?? I would think, that a rant like this, should occur during timeouts, between quarters, within the coaching circle on our bench and in the huddle?? (deep sigh) and thanks for the memories ~ Deke get well soon.
that's why I suggested Rick on 610 a couple of days ago that Rick should rest yao in game 2, which was supposed to be a lose anyway. by far, no team has won 2 road games so it's not very amazing for us to lose this game to Blazers, we have already stolen the HCA after all.
Most of the time you can see that Rockets using Yao as a decoy to set up other guys. Works pretty well till that flop in 3rd forced Yao to take a rest, then Blazers had a nice little run, Rockets just couldn't catch up from that ever since.
It was Yao's fault for so little attempts. Being the best center in the league, he is way too easily to be stopped. For years they still can't find a reliable way to beat the fronting. The Rockets still have a long way to the championship if they can't solve this issue. The go to guy is often shut down by the flopping scrubs.
we won both road games and went up 2-0 in the exact same situation 4 years ago in Dallas (as the 5 seed). Had an excellent chance to do it again, why concede a game? especially with our recent post season disappointments when we had homecourt
It was Rick Adelman from the start.. He didnt go to Yao at the start of the game like Game 1... I was thinking after the tip off they were gonna go right to Yao but it never happened
Why is shot attempt of yao so important? Its not like the offense is stagnant or scoring is a problem for the TEAM. Rox scored 100 points for goodness sake.
If he can't get the ball down low, throwing off our offense into scrambling confusion, give it to Yao in the high post or foul line extended where he can take those 15 footers. He can still hit those, or pass to whoever's open underneath, since they will run at him even up there.
Whatever the problem is they better fix it before Friday night's game. If Yao only get's 6 shots in the next game we are in huge trouble.
Like I have said in other threads. 3 of Portland's big men had 5 fouls. You have to make them pay for that. In the 4th we didn't even attempt to post him up, we had him in the high post for most of the 4th qt.
man y'all people need to chill! had we hit just 5 of our free throws we would have won the game. It's not just about establishing Yao. They had three guys on him almost the whole night. That's why the lane was so wide open to lowry, wafer, brook etc to drive in. Our other players was able to execute when they double or triple yao. We score 103 pts. should be enuff to win games. The lost last night was because we didnt bring our defense on B-ROY not because we couldnt execute when they front yao. Hitting them free throws would have help also. you people really need to watch the game again.
It's been discussed, and discussed and discussed and discussed to the point it's nearly not worth bothering about. Only those who are casual fans and don't watch the game analytically still pose the question. First and foremost, Yao (in spite of his immense size) is an very small target, doesn't hold low post position very well and requires a nearly perfect pass into the low box. Secondly, Yao is too easy to front because his lack of athleticism locks him into a position where a lob pass is ineffective. The lob pass has to be nearly perfect as weakside help can easily pick off a less than perfect pass. Thirdly, the way to attack a fronting defense is ball movement NOT side to side dribble movement. This changes the angle at which a post entry pass is made and increases the effectiveness. Unfortunately and too frequently, the Rockets take this "Fool's Gold" the defense is giving and waste time dribbling side to side. Lastly, equally important and easily ignored is the fact that the Rockets have been successful without Grady. They have been successful because they acquired players who could attack the rim and finish (relatively) strong...Artest, Wafer, Brooks, Lowry....and they are moving away from the Van Gundy-esque concept of surrounding Yao with standstill shooters who can't finish and waste time with side to side dribbling...Alston & Head. The last point is what has to happen when the opposing team places all it's marbles in one bag by saying..."you might beat us, but Yao isn't going to beat us". One day, everyone will understand these concepts and no more silly threads about shot attempts will be needed......in my dreams.
