Last night, Barry Bonds became the only baseball player EVER..in the history of the game..to record 500 stolen bases and 500 homeruns over the course of a career.

But, wasn't he the only player to ever hit 500 homeruns and steal 499 bases the day before? Gotta love the round numbers! :)

Amazing! Like him or not, someday our grandkids will be talking about him. We get to watch him.

Remember the things they were saying about KG Jr. a few years ago? How things can change. Makes what Bonds does even more amazing.

that's exactly right. i was talking about that with a friend the other day. to put up those kinds of numbers you have to stay healthy, be lucky and be very, very, very good.

barry bonds is in absolute elite company among the very greatest players who have ever played the game at any position.

    this from espn.com this morning:

Barry Bonds' one-small-steal-for-man, one-giant-win-for-the-Giants move into his own private 500-500 Club all of a sudden is the stats island least likely to ever be joined by another player.

Under current conventional wisdom, the stolen base is the Clay Aiken of the manager's toolkit (lightly regarded, second-place strategy); no super-slugger will ever get enough green lights to steal enough bases to join Bonds. (How ridiculous is it? A player would have to average 33 HR and 33 SB per year for 15 years to match him.)

Bonds will have his own club for a long, long time. Wow.

We have to enjoy watching him play while he's still around. This is a privilege.

The fact that he still steals bases at massive size, and does it properly and at the right times (as he did yesterday), astounds me.

500/500. Who else will match this? Rodriguez? Guerrero? My money is on Soriano.

    Until he wears a different uniform...no I don't.

Of course, I hate Alou for preventing us from getting Soriano.

"Now is not the time to talk about 500-500,'' Bonds said, who became the first player ever with 500 stolen bases and 500 homers. "I'm exhausted.''

    Is baseball that tiring?

I also think his performance in last year's playoffs made him even more of a badass. Proir to last year's playoffs, he was known for being a playoff choker. But he had a good world series last year.
