Anyone checked this album out? Its been one of the most highly anticipated albums to ever come out. They had to bump the release date from Feb 11 to Feb 6th because of bootlegging. I've been listening to it for 5 days now, pretty sweet stuff coming from 50 cent. With production help from Dr. Dre and Eminem (plus a couple guest appearances by Em) the album grossed nealy 900,000 copies in only 4 days, and will easily become one of the few rap albums to ever go platinum in that short time. http://billboard.com/billboard/daily/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1816201 "The 50 Cent sales wave extended to many of the albums in the upper echelon of the chart, as most experienced some kind of sales gain. Last week's No. 1, the Dixie Chicks' "Home" (Monument/Columbia), saw a 9.8% sales burst, but its 114,000 copies place it a distant No. 2. The album is also No. 1 for an 11th-straight week on Billboard's Top Country Albums roundup. " 50's popularity has grow ever since he became known as the future of hip-hop in NYC with many mixtape and independant albums. Overall, The CD probably could never quite live up to all the hype, but its still really damn good. I doubt anyone this year in hip-hop will put out a better album.
His performance on Jimmy Kimmel was absolutely terrible, but the song isn't bad in the studio. "and you don't give a **** cause its your birthday..." I loved it when Jimmy told him he needed to work on the stabbing department after he told Jimmy he had only been cut once after telling him that he had been shot nine times.
I absolutely LOVE 50 Cent. That album is hot as hell. Wanksta, How to Rob an Industry N....., and all his freestyles. He talks junk to everybody, and got his body riddled with bullets for it. He then proceeded to steal some of Ja Rule's jewelry, and forced Rule to buy him a watch before he would give it back. Now thats charisma!
I was in NYC in December, and 50 Cent was already a big hit over there. Wanksta was heard repeatedly. 50 Cent will put East Coast rap back on the map.
I always see East coast rappers as the best anyway. Jay-Z, Nas, Biggie, 50, etc. etc. I guess commercially the South is getting lots of airplay, but music-wise it goes East, South, then West.
I read about him in last months Blender. Speaking of which...does anyone else read that magazine? I am hooked on it. I read the regular industry rags but Blender is by far my favorite magazine. I know it is simple and they use sex to sell it and its basically soft core p*rn and that all of you 'musician' folk out there find it shallow and hollow but I don't give a ****. I think its great. The CD reviews have enlightened me to some fo my new favorite bands including: Wilco (F'N TIGHT!) Atom and his Package (Hilarious) MC Paul Barman mabny others.
I'm going to buy this album this weekend. 50 saying he will kick Ja Rule and Gotti's ass makes me want to buy it even more. btw, 50 is coming to Houston! http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=51554
Rapper 50 Cent's debut vaults straight to the top By Edna Gundersen, USA TODAY Talk about No. 1 with a bullet. Rapper 50 Cent, who was shot nine times during his crack-dealing days, survived and got rich quick after selling 872,000 copies of Get Rich or Die Tryin' in four days. The album, rushed into release last Thursday to combat bootlegging, tops Billboard and breaks a 1993 record to become the highest-selling major-label first album since SoundScan began tabulating data in 1991. A protégé of Eminem and Dr. Dre, 50 Cent has two hits fueling Get Rich sales: In Da Club and Wanksta, a bonus track also on the 8 Mile soundtrack. Though 50 Cent's stunning launch may suggest that bootleggers and Internet file-swappers made negligible dents in sales, experts argue otherwise. Geoff Mayfield, Billboard's director of charts, says: "You can't look at the best seller and say, 'Piracy's not a problem.' We don't know how many more copies he might have sold." Though available for only four of the six days in an opening cycle, Get Rich probably didn't suffer from a late start. "In most cases, a debut that lands at No. 1 piles up a large sum on the first day and the weekend," Mayfield says. Even with 50 Cent's blockbuster, sales this week lagged behind the corresponding week in 2002, indicating a continuing slump. In the top 10, the Dixie Chicks drop to second place, trailed by Kid Rock, Norah Jones, Avril Lavigne, the Chicago soundtrack and Jennifer Lopez. Blake Shelton's Dreamer enters the chart at No. 8. LL Cool J, boosted by his role in Deliver Us From Eva and his All I Have duet with Lopez, rockets to No. 9 from No. 84. Missy Elliott closes out the top 10, ahead of the No. 11 debut by the Daredevil soundtrack. Michael Jackson, igniting new controversy with last week's televised documentary, enjoyed sales bumps. Invincible and Thriller showed modest gains. But the 5,170% leap for 1987's Bad isn't impressive on close inspection: It sold 896 copies, compared with 17 the previous week.
I loathe Murder Inc and all it stands for. As for the whole West Coast-East Coast rap scene, I have to admit that East Coast rap is starting to take over again, Even though I've never cared for Jay-Z and didn't really like Nas ****ing around with Murder Inc, 50 Cent is one of best, and has been for a few years now. Even though sometimes it seems some east coast rappers will put out "pop-ish" songs just to get airplay (P.Diddy, Jay-Z) West Coast rap is still staggering, Snoop's last album with Ok, Xzibit didn't get enough attention from Dre and was left on his own for much of his album. The South is making a lot of noise right now, with new artists and groups coming out of nowhere, The regenerated Cash Money, Atlanta seems to always be hot.
Just got it on my lunch break and am jamming to it right now! I hope he doesnt get shot for no reason as those gansta rappers often do
Damn right. I usually wait until about 5PM to bump the ghetto stuff in my cube. The blue hairs around me are pretty appalled by the 50 Cent, Big Tymers, etc.
I fell out of my chair laughing at that track where the gay dude is saying ... " Oh, no, he, didn't say anything about Ja. Ja is my boo. Doesn't he know I'm a 12 degree pink belt. I will dice his a$$ up like a little piece of celery." ... Damn that was too funny. This album is on it's way to being a certified classic.
I bought J-Rule's first CD when he was with Roc A Fella, It was terrible. But mostly I've learned, all non Jay-Z Roc A Fella CDs aren't good except Memphis Bleek. I will buy his. But do you remember that first Ja Rule single, Holla Holla, that was a pretty good track. Even though I won't buy his stuff, you have to respect Ja for this, having the balls to leave a rising star in Jay-Z and putting together a successful lablel of his own. You don't see that in Hip-Hop/Rap hardly at all.
Ja didn't put together a label. He might be the "biggest star" of the label but it is Irv Gotti's label and he is being investigated on how he got the money to set up the label. He has been connected to drug dealing and investigators are looking into if he used "dirty money" to start up. And Murder Inc. is now part of The Row.
Actually, I think Nelly, and it took him a while to grow on me, has a lot of talent. He is mostly pop, no doubt, but his lyrics aren't bad. As far as $.50 is concerned, I had been hearing about him for about 4 years before he finally came with this album, and I must say for the hype, I think he is overrated. I mean come on, Wanksta, my friends used to use that term in high school. You're an wanksta not a gansta, I can't believe so many people are impressed with that. His lyrics are average, the music is really good though. Maybe if I buy the CD I might think differently, but as far as the two singles on the radio, I don't see what the big deal is.
