Not sure if you guys caught this since it was sort of put somewhere where it shouldn't be, but draftexress says that JL3 has at least 5 teams that have offered 2 year deals to him...Do the Rox stand a chance at losing this young kid?? http://draftexpress.com/viewarticle.php?a=1410 They snuck this tidbit in the Orlando Summer League Day 4 wrap-up of Aaron Miles....Odd place for this factoid, but interesting information none-the-less...
Yeah I saw this that's why we need to up the ante. Give him guaranteed 2 years, a lil over the minimum, and he'll definitely sign.
I doubt this is true. Draft Expres isn't reliable when it comes to NBA news. If the Rockets had offered him a guaranteed contract, he would have already signed it for sure.
I hate agents!!!! How could JLs agent be demanding more than minimum for a guy that has barely played in the NBA??? Does he not know hes been playing in the SUMMER LEAGUE!!! Not against real superstar athletes!!! Summer League games look 100X worse than high school basketball teams.
If the Rockets weren't one of those 5 teams Lucas is gone. If JVG wanted him we would have made an offer already.
We can't do that without dipping into our MLE. I wouldn't do that unless we use most of it up on another player.
You ask for what ya want and settle for what you can get why should he sell his client short? If his client can get a 2 yr deal . .then he gets it if not. . then he gets what he can Rocket River Tired of people asking athletes and agents to do something that THEY THEMSELVES WOULD NEVER DO . . . not a person on this board would take a paycut to stay at their current job. . esp if they could get more doing the same job somewhere else. . .
No I dont think so(not sure) but isn't Lucas like in love with the Rockets so I think he will come here. Well that's what I said with Mike James and I we all saw how that turned out.
The report says that the two front runners bidding for his services are the Rockets and the Suns. The Suns want him behind Steve Nash for obvious reasons. Now JLIII is one guy I certainly wouldn't mind overpaying for to make sure we secure his services. He's still relatively cheap and he has lots of upside.
If that happens, then I predict that there will be a thread from the "Sycophants" blasting the "moaners" for not being TRUE Rockets' fans...
For argument's sake, let's say John Lucas III had an offer from Phoenix and the same offer from Houston. Why would he even consider Houston? Because it's home? I believe the same taxes apply to Arizona as Texas, right? If he wants to make money in this league and launch his career, that's a no-brainer to go to Phoenix. Their style of play fits his game and would inflate his numbers. Houston's would actually decrease his numbers, plus you have to deal with JVG flaking out on younger players. The Rockets' style of play isn't a lure for young free agents who need to do well statistically to get "paid" eventually. The only draw to Houston I can think of is that in Phoenix, he has no chance to start. In Houston, he sadly has a remote chance down the line since Rafer Alston can't shoot a lick.
Agree. But if the Suns is chasing him, you have to think they are seeing something in JLIII we are not seeing.
If we go a dime over the league minimum exception, the money will they come out from our MLE - we cannot afford that - ummmm what da heck, who else could we use the MLE on anyway. I'll say, don't let this one get away.
