That probably is common across all ISD. It’s probably not just remote schooling. I can count 4 teacher needing to take time off from 3 to 10 days already this early on because of sickness or because they were in contact with someone that tested positive. In these cases there was no sub. They just double up the classes. They should juSt call this a experimental / do over year or whatever. Get rid of staar testing.
It's everywhere. There's a movement at the TX state government level to cancel STAAR this year. It's hard for a lot of kids to stay locked in, and it requires a lot more parent participation. That sort of support should be there to begin with but there are a lot of parents who are stretched too thin, are having mental issues due to COVID related stress, or just shitty parents. On the other hand, Teachers who can't stay engaged with students need to adapt as well. I know it's hard, but it's important to figure it out on your own if your district isn't helping.
It’s still experimental education to all. The Schoology system used in CyFair went down several times during class - an IT issue that impacted thousands of student. CyFair also added one day out of each month as teacher prep day. On these days, all students are remote and self pace learners. It just all very new because of covid, so growing pain is very much expected. I get trying to be normal but we aren’t at normal and it’s frankly stupid to hold the same testing standard in an experimental school year.
My kids aren't failing but they sure aren't doing as well as they normally would .... My son constantly complains that the teachers ignore the at home students while "in class" if they are asking questions and that they don't respond to emails more often than not. We have the option to send them back in January , assuming in person classes are still happening , we are seriously considering sending them to in person classes. They are just missing too much ... not just the learning part but the interaction with others. Vaccine can't get here soon enough .... life needs to return to normal like yesterday.
dude, NOBODY HERE EXCEPT FOR 99ers @Ziggy knows what HISD means you think the china trolls know what this is? they might think it's STATE MEDIA @Os Trigonum They don't know about Sharpstown, Yates, Bellaire, Lamar, Pershing, Madison The D&D doesn't care about HOUSTON.
Aaah, the new Fertitta School for Restaurateurs at UH. 4 years of school then straight to line cook at Joe's Crab Shack. Good job Coogs! Phi Slamma Jamma those crab legs.
Ive posted this before, Katy ISD is probably a model district for the entire country. They invest a lot in their schools. So does HISD but Katy's kids perform
i've heard HISD has been on the decline for a long time. The parents with money are putting their kids into private schools or they moved to the woodlands or katy or sugarland. and thanks fo making a thread that the real members of clutchfans can debate not the trolls from portland or beijing
Its funny that schools like Reagan and Waltrip haven't changed economically with the gentrification of the Heights. Im sure a bunch of those families in the m any $300K plus homes on the Heights have kids. Oak Forest has always been economically sound a n d has just gotten wealthier in the last 20 years. That being said HISD is a prime example of my point that problems like education need to start being addressed from inside the home. Heights ranks 22ndd out of 45 HISD high schools. Waltrip is the bottom half of Texas high school rankings. They just finished this year Ranking of all Houston area public schools https://www.hdavidballinger.com/high-schools-houston.php Edit; Waltrip finished remodeling this year
I don’t know if people there all have kids . For sure Katy and woodlands do. That’s the reason why those houses are so big .
I’m so damn fortunate.....my kid has his mom’s brains and drive. He’s been virtual the whole time, and he keeps his teachers on their toes. He won a spot at cornerstone academy, and he’s high honor roll......with very little help from us. I “help” him study Spanish because I think he’s trying to help me learn. He’s left me in the dust. I see some of his friends and some of the neighborhood kids (who are more “normal”), and I don’t know how those parents do it. 2020 and Covid suck!.....but at least in this regard, it’s been pretty easy for us.
You make fun of the statement .... but think about it. How many people work in jobs that don't require anything more than a couple days OTJT. Food service , point of sale retail and even manufacturing where one person does the same mindless task over and over until the whistle blows. Lawn service , sanitation , transportation and a long list of other jobs .... Do you really think that people need continued education to do them ? Food service workers at a record high in US economy: Record percent of Americans now employed in food services as a share of total employment coupled with peak food stamp usage. But, what was the percentage that failed before we had covid? I have to have something to compare it to.
