NY: Anderson, Eisley, Foyle Houston: Rice GS: Charlie Ward Dallas: Trade exception Thank-you very much for taking one of our cancers. We win. http://www.nypost.com/sports/knicks/140.htm
Nice... Knicks do win but Rice is not a cancer, just dead weight in that situation. Its not like his nasty contract hinders the Knicks cap with guys like Houston making a killing. Good scoop newbie. This is Vecsey but he knows the Knicks.
Why would we want Rice, hes aging and is getting paid a lot for doing nothing. Look at the white hairs on his facial hair for proof, he won't do us any good unless we trade him for a center.
S**t. Good scoop, newbie. Way to nail the lid shut... From the article: "In Houston under Rudy Tomjonovich, practices are less vigorous and Rice could get more touches as an outside shooter and Houston's a team that usually goes inside. " Classic Vescey. He's forgotten that we have virtually no frontcourt. He remembered that we want Othella, though, and hammered that home. (is he ever right?) We'd better get something out of it. Still, tho, I don't see how the salaries match up... I might very well be a blind man in denial, but...
Don't put this trade in the books just yet. Remember what happened with the original Ewing-to-Seattle 4-team trade involving Vin Baker. Detroit finally realized in the 11th hour that they were just getting a bunch of crap, so they pulled out, thereby ruining the whole deal. If the Rockets decide at the last minute that Rice isn't worth the money (he's DEFINITELY a great fit for this team ON the court against the zone), they can always send this trade into the crapper. I just can't wait to see how this thing plays out!
Oh, yeah, and another thing. Rice has a GREAT postup game as a small forward. If we got him, he may very well be the Rockets' best postup threat. Seriously, while he has made his reputation as a shooter, Rice got a lot of his points down low in Charlotte.
Vecsey sucks. Maybe CD is still thoroughly exhausted from the whole Hakeem ordeal and is now making rash decisions. Rational decision-making ability is definitely limited by lack of sleep/exhaustion. Of course, rational decision-making is also limited by hitting the crackpipe, too. Cato and Rice on the same team. Wow. I see the storm clouds gathering over the Compaq Center already...
While I still think that the Wizards are in some kind of deal with the Rockets for a shooter, I'm not sure if it's Rice or Walt. If we lose Shandon, what do we lose? He hustles, get's garbage points, and plays good D. In Rice, we one of the games great outside shooters. I'll do a little comparison for yall, just so you don't have to do it yourselves. Age: A: 28 R: 34 Salary A: Not nearly what Rice is getting R: Cap room sucker uppper Minutes per game: A: 24.5 R: 36.2 (he's getting paid more and a showcase player) FGAs A: 7.1 (doesn't ask for the ball much) R: 15.7 (always wants the rock) PCT A: 47.4 (layups are hard to miss) R: 45.8 (sweet stroke) FTAs A: 2.4 (?????) R: 4.1 (doesn't drive much) PCT A: 73.5 (you get rusty when you don't shoot 'em much) R: 84.7 (extra point a game) 3PTAs A: 515 (not know for being a bomber) R: 3550 (what you would expect) PTC A: 33.0 (see above) R: 40.4 (very nice) BLK A: .3 (no threat here) R: .3 (not his specialty either) STL A: .9 (thanks for the effort) R: 1.0 (you too) TO A: 1.5 (to be expected) R: 1.8 (same here) PF A: 2.0 (average) R: 2.5 (average) REBs A: 3.5 R: 4.6 AST: A: 1.7 R: 2.2 PTS A: 8.9 R: 19.5 I look at this a couple of ways...if RT plans on running, and wants a very deep bench and plans to rely on a zone, I think Rice would be a good addition. Other than eating his salary, I think he can provide more to the team than what SA can provide.
What exactly do you win? You're still so far over the cap that you're screwed. You're stuck with Houston's 100 million dollar contract, and Shandon is likely still going to get a big contract. As for Rice being "one of your cancers", I think you better worry about Latrell Sprewell who has been disgruntled, especially with the Houston re-signing.
