That's what's it's like with Battier on the floor. The offense is absolutely stagnant without SF that can create off the dribble and dish or score, which allows other teams to double up on our scorers. I know Battier is seen as the leader of this team and his defense isn't bad but it's not enough anymore to make up for the lack of offense. Just my two cents...
He and Chuck are defensive specialist that need to be coming off the bench. Part of the reason this team sux.
Battier is a bona-fide "role-player". Right now our team needs go-to scorers that can break down the offense when no shots are falling. Battier would be amazing on a team like the Lakers because he would be allowed to do what he does best: defense and spot-up-shooting. Double teams would give him wide-open looks. The only go-to guys on our team aside from Brooks are Scola and Martin, and neither command a double team. If we had a Yao or a T-mac commanding double teams, Shane would have a lot more open looks and he wouldn't look so bad on the offense.
True, they need to come off the bench. Chuck is actually a much better defender but I don't think you can put both of them on the floor at the same time as starters. One of the main problems, however, is that Battier doesn't have the burst of speed to get to the rack. And when the Rockets try to play the pick and roll he just fades to the outside rather than taking it to the hoop. Just way too one-dimensional in my opinion.
only if gerald wallace wants to come here i traded battier for g-wall in 2k11  bobcats offered and i couldn't resist
Chuck and Shane started a majority of the 06-07 games (with JHo filling in while Chuck was hurt). That squad won 52. Shane is the same offensive player now as he was then. Chuck has improved. IMO what's missing is a center who commands double teams.
if only there were a way for us to keep him, whilst at the same time him coming off the bench for whomever. oh, what a dream that would be
Are you kidding?? Its like 4 on 5 when Brooks is out there, he is so terrible on both sides of the court.
I know Shane and Lowry had decent offensive nights, but usually that is not the case. When the starting lineup took the floor tonight I couldn't help but think, " We are kidding ourselves." Battier, Lowry, Hayes, Martin, and Scola, I mean seriously, it is actually amazing that our record is good as it is. Talk about playing over your head. We may have the weakest offensive starting lineup in the NBA AND we play horrible defense. We probably should all be thankful that we have won over ten games.
Teamwise, but let's examine the starting lineup: Hayes, amazing player, poor guy is asked to do the impossible, admit it, when he puts the ball in the basket you are shocked. Lowry, great bench player, tough defender, plays hard, gets physical, but admit it, every time he takes a shot you hide your eyes. Battier, Mr. Glue Guy, plays hard, smart defender, the corner shot is his specialty. How many does he make? That's right, not many. Love the scooper, lunch pail guy, how often does he make a three? And then the gunner, when he is on, look out, when he is not, he becomes a "volume" shooter. All in all with out some bench help this team wouldn't be in the top ten offensively.
That why this team sucks now and has been sucking all these years!! We need to stop getting barely above average one dimensional players.
